LESSON PROCEDURE

Teacher:Good morning, everybody! Glad to see you. Today we are having an unusual lesson. Try not to keep silence but to speak as much as possible. By the way, what’s the date today? So few weeks are left before the start of spring season. Are you looking forward to season activities? It’s the best time for doing outdoor sports, isn’t it?

 Warming up :

  1. Name the objectives of our lesson P1, P2, P3
  2. Motto:          TODAY I WILL DO

                      WHAT OTHERS WON’T,

                      SO TOMORROW I CAN DO

                     WHAT OTHERS CAN’T

What’s the main idea of the motto I’ve chosen for the lesson?

(health, sport and activities can give us the inspiration for future success)

  1. Identify the sports… (pictures given)
  2. T: What words do you assotiate with extreme sports ? Let’s make a mind map to help you speak out ( word-web – 4-5 : adrenalin rush ,   survive, bungee jumping, dangerous, brave, thrill, sense of freedom , reasons,  safety...) So, these are the things we are going to discuss today.

These word combinations will help you to express your opinion:

As for me...           I believe...                     I must say...

In my opinion...     I’m sure...                     I can say...

To my mind...        Frankly speaking...      I suppose...

Look at the blackboard and read the poem with the proper intonation:

Ride the waves on a fibreglass board,
Jump from a bridge on the end of a cord!
Scale a mountain 'til you feel that flush,
Seek the elusive adrenalin rush!
Pay out good money for a so-called thrill -
I've mine for nothing, but I'd rather be still.
By Rhonda

  1. T: Let’s  check the homework:

Now meet P1and P2.

They prepared and are ready to dramatise the dialogue presenting  an unusual kind of sport. You’re welcome! All the rest of you are to be attentive and then answer the question:   What kind of  extreme sport is L going to do next weekend?( going skydiving)

L:  I’m so excited this weekend. Guess what I’m doing.

M:  I have no idea.

L:  I’m going skydiving!

M:  What??

L:  Yeah, I’m so excited! It’s going to be so awesome.

M:  Oh my god. Are you just an adrenaline junkie, or what?

L:  I think it’s time to live a little. I’ve been wanting to skydive since I was really young. I’m at a time in my life where I need to take risks, and go for the thrill, and get outside my comfort zone. You know, that kind of thing.

M:  I’m all for taking risks, but that just seems very dangerous to me. I mean, you look as if you’ve already broken  your neck!

L:  I prefer to concentrate on the thrill more than the “falling to my death” part.

M:  OK, well , it doesn’t sound really wise. Skydiving? It  seems so much dangerous.

L:  But what’s more dangerous? Possible, actual danger, or the regrets you will face later having not done it?

M:  I don’t think I will ever regret not jumping out of an airplane. I have things that I want to do in life, but skydiving is just not one of them. But I wish you the best of luck, and I’ll be so curious to hear about it.

L:  I’ll send you a text on the way down.

(video)

T:  Here are two opinions about extreme sports. They are quite different:

Extreme sportsbecome more and more dangerous. Besides, they’re  expensive...”

“I like extreme sports. It’s just great. The extreme sport offers sense of freedom...”

Which opinion do you agree with? Why?

P1, p2, p3…

  1.               Pupil  : Dangerous Sports

Taking everything into account, I would like to say In recent years there has been a considerable increase in the popularity of risky or ‘extreme sports’ in spite of the inherent danger involved. Iwill  try toexamine some of the main reasons why people like to participate in such activities and also discuss some ways in which the risk element for all those involved could be reduced.

Extreme sports such as skateboarding, rollerblading or riding a BMX  developed dramatically during the last decade of the century for obvious reasons.

In fact it is very traumatic and dangerous sport for life. Also extreme sports require a lot of money to travel around the world and purchase equipment. Last but not least, an extreme sport requires a lot of time to train and it’s hard to find a place for it in life.
Have you ever done something so extreme, that you’ve actually risked your life for it maybe? If so, why did you do it? Maybe to prove a point, but to who? Many people actually feel like they must make that impact in the world and prove a point to everyone else about being able to accomplish something maybe no one else could. It seems like a way to get attention possibly.

One of the main reasons why some people are attracted to dangerous sports is that they get an adrenalin buzz from them. These people simply like taking risks – they get high on it. They like challenging their abilities and pushing themselves to the limit. A deep sense of satisfaction, having faced a potentially dangerous situation; for example while bungee jumping, rock climbing or abseiling and successfully accomplishing it, is often the reward for them.

Another reason for pursuing such sports is the fame and financial reward available to the top participants in many cases. They make the headlines on the Internet and TV news and may even receive celebrity status. With fame comes fortune - they may be offered a lot of money from sports goods manufacturers for example, who hire them for product endorsements. They may also be able to build a long term career associated with their particular sport; through merchandising, videos, commentary, web pages, product development and other commercial activities – all based on their skill, experience and ability to attract fans and potential customers.

All in all, there is no single solution to this problem. Fans of extreme sports are  becoming more and more every year, despite its dangers. One can only hope that the extreme sport activities  tend to minimizing the danger and taking advantage of  benefits.

  1. Meet  P and her story about her and her Dad’s favourite kind of extreme sport:

Motocross was first evolved in the U.K. in 1906. The first known scramble race took place at Camberley, Surrey in 1924. During the 1930s, the sport grew in popularity, especially in Britain.
Injuries are common in Motocross motorcycle sports. Research has shown that Motocross puts the body under extreme stress and the risk of injury is high. Most Motocross injuries occur during a crash. There are numerous reports of fatalities
Men are injured far more frequently than women during Motocross. The majority of those people who are injured are under the age of 25.

On March 17, 2013, in Energodar, the 1st stage of the personal-team Motor Sports championship of Ukraine was held among adults .
2015- Outdoor open individual and team championship of Ukraine among young people in Energodar
Motocross is a very dangerous sport, but also it is perfect for those  who love speed and risk and motorcycles. Thank you.

6a. His views on extreme sports G will share with you.

RIVER BUGGING

River bugging is white water sport where a single person navigates a stretch of river in a craft known as a river bug.

 HISTORY

River bugging began in New Zealand about 10 years ago and washed up in Scotland in 200

 RISKS AND PROBLEMS

River bugging is a cool and spellbinding sport, but so many people fracture their bones. So people should wear a wetsuit, jacket, Buoyancy Aid, Helmet, Guide.

 MY OPINION

I like river bugging because it’s a great way to play on the river if you want that little bit more excitement and it’s ideal for summer river levels.

6b.  Her views on extreme ssports A  will share with you

Wok racing has been developed by the German TV host and entertainer Stefan Raab: Modified woks are used to make timed runs down an Olympic bobsled track. There are competitions for one-person-woksleds and four-person-woksleds, the latter using four woks per sled.

The official history of wok racing begins in 2003, when a German TV channel had the wacky idea of sending various celebrities down a bobsled track in the eponymous kitchen tool.
The first televised wok racing championship was a surprise ratings success, not least because of the genuine undercurrent of risk each time a has-been or wannabe celebrity set off down the track. There were spills as well as thrills, ultimately resulting in a broken arm for the lead singer of a German techno band.

The following year saw the first of eight world championships
The woks themselves are all standard issue, however, they do have a resin coating on the base for extra strength and the sides are coated with polyurethane foam. This is unadulterated fun but it can be a little dangerous so all racers wear heavy protective suits and for a bit of extra speed they have ladles on their feet. Yes, ladles.
I must say,Wok racing is dangerous  but very exciting.

  1. Interview

A special project by two – a sort of research-has been worked out and now will be presented with the comments summarising the information .

K and A, Are you ready to speak?

K:  We have interviewed a group of some teachers and pupils. And so, we asked them some questions about extreme sports.

It can be seen from the table that all of the people agree that extreme sports are very popular in the world.
Also, it can be seen that half of all people would like to start doing any of the extreme sports.
Less than half of all people think, that extreme sports are popular in Ukraine.
And, finally, a few people guess that extreme sports are popular in our school. We agree with this opinion too, because they are very dangerous.

Summerise what groups have just said.

Pupil K. :Advantages of Extreme sport

No one has any doubts, Sport holds an important place in our life. Sport helps people stay in good shape, keeps them fit, healthy and makes more organized and better disciplined in their daily activities. It is not a secret that the big part of sportlife takes Extreme sport.
Of course, there are so many different kinds of extreme sport: climbing, rafting, parachuting, rope jumping, river bugs and cliff jumping. All of them are exciting and wonderful.
I like Extreme sport. It’s just great. Extreme sport offers sense of freedom. It brings you a lot of unforgettable emotions. You can feel some adrenaline, when you do extreme sport.
Of course, extreme sport is for brave people. It combines good physical shape, intense workout and enjoyment. Many extreme sports require you to use your full and push your body's limits, so it can help you burn calories and lose weight. For example, skateboarding for an hour can burn up to 500 calories while also improving your balance, flexibility, endurance and muscle strength.
What is more, Extreme sport is very popular nowadays because it provides exciting feelings to people. And if you want to add bright, colorful and amazing impressions to your everyday life, extreme sport is the best activity. Dangers are not a significant problem, because if you follow the rules, your flight will be safe and you will not face any dangers.
