Global warming and its impact on climate

Aim 

• to focus on the climate change and on global warming
• to use the vocabulary from A1 and work with the connection between individual energy use and global energy issues

1 Check up the home task. Put a big picture of any house on the blackboard and tell students to stick the stickers with their ideas on it.

2 Show your class The Royal Society’s one-minute video on global warming above.

 3  After watching, give students some statements and ask them to choose TRUE OR FALSE statements, using information from the video, that they have just watched.

4 Write on the board your own statements, using ex.3 and ask them to share opinions (I think ... / I feel ... / I’m afraid I’ll ... / As far as I’m concerned ..., etc.).

5  After this, write ‘If we had stopped ..., we wouldn’t have’ and ‘It’s high time we ...’ on the board.

• Using some paper, students write three statements using these structures on what they feel has happened because of global warming.

Home task

Divide students into groups and give them some pictures with poor animals/

Ask every group to make a short written story about this animal, using the active vocabulary and the structure ‘If we had stopped ..., we wouldn’t have’.
