The main part
1. Presentation of toys
Teacher shows flashcards and says, the pupils repeat.
It’s a teddy bear. It’s big.
It’s a ball. It’s round.
It’s a car. It’s square.
2. GameMagic box.
Bring into class a magic box that you can fit about five toys into. You could use a teddy, a ball, a toy car, a doll and so on . Use mime and actions to help express the words cuddle, bounce and play (for the car and puppet). Make a big show of putting your hand into the bag and feeling around for a toy. Once you have a toy in your hand ask ‘What is it?’ without showing them the toy. The idea is they try and guess what it is and eventually ask questions such as ‘Is it round?’ Start by saying ‘It’s small, it’s round, you can bounce it’ etc. Repeat the question ‘What is it?’ as you pull the toy out of the bag and say ‘Yes, it’s a teddy bear!’ After a few goes pass the bag around the class for the children to pick a toy themselves. This way you can lead the questions e.g. ‘Is it big?’ and they only have to answer yes or no.
3. Practicing expressions: ‘I like…’, ‘My favourite is…’
Pupils do the shopping. (P1-T) I like this big ball. It’s my favourite toy. They use Thank you. Good bye. Please.
4. Game. Find a team.
Give each pupil a worksheet and some coloured pencils. (1. Toys of round shape. 2. Toys of square shape.3. Big toys. 4. Small toys.)
Tell them that you are going to play some music and you want them to colour a toy.
As the music is playing, all pupils should be drawing.
After 30 or 40 seconds, stop the music.
Pupils stop drawing and find students with similar toys. Must be 4 teams, pupils must explain why they unite.
Proper ending.
1. Reflection.
2. Sing a song «I love toys» (Family and friends1. Lesson 2)
