7. Reading: And now I have a surprise for you. As you know I adore Michael Jackson. He was not only a singer and a songwriter, but also a poet. In 1992 he published his second book, called ‘Dancing the Dream’. The book consists of 46 pieces of poetry and essays. The subjects Jackson wrote about are primarily children, animals and the environment. Today we will read his essay ‘Look again, baby seal’. First of all, let’s have a look at the new words from the text. Now work in groups. You have 10 minutes to work on the text. While reading pay attention to Past Simple and Passive Voice forms and underline them. After reading answer the question and present your answers to the class: Ø Why did the picture of a baby seal touch the author? Ø People started to donate money to save seals, but was that enough or was there a big gap? Ø What questions did author asked himself? Ø According to author, everyone who began to ask the same questions found that their feelings were shifting away from fear toward more closeness with life, didn’t they? Ø Continue the sentence: ‘I realized that nothing…’ Ø Why baby seal’s eyes said: ‘You have not hurt me’. Read the answer from the text. Ø What hope does author have? Find the answer in the text. |
