Topic:  My Favourite Animals

Form: 2  (NUS)

Objectives:

  • to review the language of the unit;
  • to practice the vocabulary of the topic:
  • to develop communicative skills

Outcomes: by the end of the lesson pupils will be able to:

  • use vocabulary related to the topic:
  • describe the animals:
  • identify the vocabulary of parts of the body and animals

Materials: posters with congratulation phrases, flashcards with different animals, a set of small  cards with parts of body, a poster with a plan for description the animals,  ‘Fence of Thougths’( for summarizing).              

 

                

                                 

                                                       Procedure

1.Greeting

  • A dialogue between children and a teacher

T: Hello, boys and girls! I’m glad to see you!

     How are you?

Ch: I am OK!

T: How are you?

Ch: I am great!

T: How are you?

Ch: I am cool!

T: How are you?

Ch: I am good!

  • Congratulation of each other

T:Form a great circle. Children, congratulate your friend with your hand on the left.

    Use the phrases on the poster.

 Ch: Good morning! - Good day! –Hello! –Hi!

 

 

 

2. Warming up

  • Singing a song’Every Day’

T: Children! Let’s listen to the song and do the actions.

  ( The children are singing and doing actions)

1)Every day                                                     2) Every day

   I go to school                                                    I go to school

   I meet my friends                                             I meet new friends

   And we all say:                                                And we all say:

 

           Hello! Hello!                                                 Hello! Hello!

           How are you?                                                What’s your name?

           I’m good! I’m great!                                     Nice to meet you!

           How about you?                                            Do you want to play?

 

  1. Motivation

T: Pupils, look at the blackboard. Can you read this word? Let’s spell it.

     (On the blackboard: My favourite  A N I M A L S )

      You are right!

       Today we are going to speak about animals and describe them.

4.Practice

      1.Revising the names of animals.

T: Let’s revise the names of the animals. Look at the blackboard and answer my questions: What animal is this?

(There are some pictures on the blackboard)

 

giraffe – elephant – snake – zebra

monkey –parrot – lion – crocodile

Ch: This is a……….

 

  • Listening and recognizing the animal sounds

T: Listen to the animal sounds and guess the animals ( Track U5 L 1-2 from the course book)  Which animal is it?

             (Answers: elephant, lion, parrot, monkey, snake)

  • Playing a game ‘Who took the cookie from the cookie jar?’

       2. Revising the parts of the body

  • Physical exercises ‘Head and shoulders’

T: And now, let’s have a little rest. So, please, stand up. We are going to do our exercises    and sing a song

 

                                Head and shoulders, knees and toes

                                And eyes, and ears, and mouth, and nose

  • Game ‘Feed the dog’

T: This is dog’s mouth with a hole. Your task is to feed the dog.

     You take the flashcard one by one, name the flashcard and threw it into the dog’s   

     mouth.

 3. Description of animals.

  • Listening and guessing the animals.

T: Look at the animals on the board. Listen to their description and guess their names.

  1. It is orange and brown. It has got four long legs and a long neck. It likes green trees.

(giraffe)

  1. It is green. It has got a big mouth and  big teeth. It has got four short legs and a long tail. It is dangerous.    (crocodile)
  2. It is very big. It has got very big ears and a long nose. It has got four legs and one tail.

    (elephant)

  1. It is black and white. It has got stripes. It has got four legs. It has got a tail. It is very nice.    (zebra)
  2. It is yellow and orange. It has got a long body. It has got two eyes. It has no legs.

It is very dangerous.    (snake)

  1. It is grey. It has got a long neck. It has got two eyes, red nose and two red legs. It can run, swim and fly.   (goose)
  2. It is blue, red, green and yellow. It has got two eyes and a long tail. It is very nice.
  • Description of favourite animals.

T:And now, children try to describe your favourite animal.  Use the poster with a plan.

 (Children choose some animals and describe them)

       It is   (colour)……..

       It has got  one/two  :  eyes/mouth/ears/neck/legs/tail/nose/body

  1. Summing up.

T:     Good job, boys and girls! We have done a lot of work today!

         Let’s sumarise our lesson. Let’s work with ‘Fence of Thougths’

( Children take separate stripes and finish  the sentences)
