Objectives:

• to enrich pupils` knowledge about the activities in free time;
• to practice their skills in analytical reading and writing;
• to practice vocabulary on the topic;
• to practice the structures be fond of, be interested in, like doing something;
• to teach listening skills;
• to develop pupils` creative thinking;
• to develop pupils` communication skills.

Equipment:

                                           PROCEDURE

I. Introduction.

1. Greeting.

  - Good morning, boys and girls! Glad to see you T.- Good morning, boys and girls!

Ss.: Good morning, teacher!

T.: Nice to see you.

Ss.: Nice to see you too.

T.: Take your seats. Well, Ilona you look great today. How are you?

S1:Very well, thank you.

T.: How are you getting on , Alina ?

S2: Pretty well, thanks.

T.: How are you keeping on,  Inna ?    

S3: :Quite well. 

T.: How is life, Julia?

S4 . Life goes its usual way.

T.: How do you feel  Ivanna ,?

S4:I feel like million dollars.

T: What about you,  Nastia  ? Why are you  so sad?

S5: I have lost my new stamp

T:It’s a pity . Are you collecting stamps ?

S6:Yes , its my hobby.

T:-And what about you  Vitalik?         

S7: - I’m great .I was  running in the morning so I’m full of power.

 T:-Very good. Is it your hobby?

 S8-Yes, it is .

2. Warming-up.

- Are  there any butterflies now?

-No, there are not.

- Why?

- ( Because it`s cold).

- What season is it now?

- Its winter now.

- What month is it now?

- Its February now.

- What`s the weather like today?

- The weather is bad , and cold. Its raining today

- What do children like doing in winter? (playing snowballs, making a snowman, sledging, skiing, skating, playing hockey).

II. Main part.

1. Practicing vocabulary.

-  It`s rather cold today. When the weather is cold and bad I prefer staying at home. And what about you? What can you do at home in your free time? (play computer games, watch TV, read books, knit, paint, draw).

 - You are right. But you are very active persons, I think. That`s why when the weather is fine you take a ball and play. What games can you play? (basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, ball).

 -  In summer we always go to the seaside or to the river. What can we do there? (swim, bathe, go fishing, lie in the sun (sunbathe).

 -  You are very sporty. What do you like to do? (ride a bike, roller-skate)

 -  So, can you guess what we would be talking about on our today`s lesson? Look at the blackboard. Let`s open the word.

 

H -  we wear it on our heads;

O -  it`s a colour and a fruit;

B - you carry school thing in it;

B- you can read it

I - it`s me;

E - it`s a very big animal;

S - we can see it only in winter;

2. Reciting a poem.

How do you spend your holidays, Mike?

I usually go on a hike.

And what about you,  Toby?

Go to mountains. It`s my hobby.

 

 

3. Presentation of the topic. - At the previous lesson we spoke  about hobbies. So your homework was to prepare presentations about your hobbies Now it is time to check it up. ( 2 PRESENTATIONS)

-T Do you like your classmates presentation ?

-s Yes , I like them.

-T  What is it about ?

-  s They are about their hobbies.

-T Can you play the piano?

-s No, I cant.

 We`ll speak about your free time and how to spend it, about activities you prefer.

4. Vocabulary Revision.

 - Pupils, I`ll show you the pictures and you`ll name the necessary kind of activity.

5.While-reading activity

Many boys and girls also have  different hobbies. Now, we’ll read about their hobbies

7. Writing.

As you know we can divide hobbies on groups

Your task is to mach the hobby with the group

First of all , lets divide  into three groups:

The fist group will choose learning things , second – making things, third- collecting things .  I’ll give  you a sheet of paper with groups. So, you have to sort them out accordingly each group.

7. Game “Mimes”.

 - Let`s split into two groups, according to your birthdays (spring-summer, autumn-winter).The pupils whose birthdays are in spring-summer will show different hobbies to those who were born in autumn-winter. Be attentive! You are to give the names of different kinds of activities in turn. (Hobbies are written on the cards: reading, drawing, singing, dancing, cooking, knitting, fishing, writing stories, taking photographs, playing the piano).

 

8. Listening.

 Listen attentively .You should remember all  types of hobbies  . And now we are going to listen to the text  about different kinds of hobbies. While listening you may pay attention to the hobbies of the members of the video and to feel up sentences. Let`s find out how clever and active are you. Complete the wheel. Make up sentences using the words denoting different activities and the structures.

10. Game “The international reporter”

Making an interview

T: Dear Students  on our lesson today we have unusual guest –famous international reporter  Sue Brown  .Now we're going to have an interview  with her.

R1:  Which  afterschool activities do you like?

P. Best of all I like to play computer games, and watch  TV.

R2: What is your hobby?

P: My hobby  is reading books.

R3: Are you fond of reading fairy-tales?

P:Yes ,I am .But best of all I like to read books about animals and adventures.

     R4: Are you fond of   collecting things?

P: Yes,    I am. But I’m really interesting in collecting computer games  

R4. Do you like travelling ?

P:  I’m really enjoying travelling .

R5: Are you fond of dancing?

P4: Not really. But I like to play the piano .

R6: Are you good at playing the piano?

     P6: Yes, I  often play at the  school concerts.

     R7: What are you interested in?

     P.7 I’m interesting in basketball and boxing.

     R8:  What hobby do you prefer?
     P.8: Im keen in playing football.

     R9: Can your hobby helps you in future ?

      P9: My  hobby is  travelling . To my mind it can help me in future . 

      R10. Do like listen to music?

      P10. Not really, my hobby is watching TV .

     R11.Dear students thank you for your  interview. It was interesting to hear about your after school activities.

III. Summing up.

Why do people have hobbies? Give full answers. (People have hobbies because they like

 - to learn new things (about nature, plants, towns, famous people)

 - to do something useful

 - to specialize in subjects

 - to make something by themselves

 - to enjoy.

OK, pupils. I liked your work at our lesson. I enjoyed your answers very much, because you did your best to be good at English.
