Objectives:

Practical: to activate the topic-related lexics; to develop student’s skills in speaking, reading, listening and writing; to practice listening and speaking in dialogues and monologues

Educative: to teach students to work in pairs and in groups

Developing: to develop students’ skills in listening and speaking, their ability to express their thoughts logically

Equipment: pictures, handouts; worksheets, MP3 player

 

Procedure

 

  1. INTRODUCTION

At this lesson you’ll learn the new words, word combinations and improve your reading, listening and speaking skills.

 Motivation: Imagine, you are gardeners. And you want to grow a skill apple tree. You have apples but they are not ripe. When you complete the sentences at the end of the lesson what you can and what you know your apples will become ripe.

 By the end of the lesson you will be able:

  • Read and write new words
  • Make up the sentences with the words
  • Use the preposition “by” with the means of transports
  • Speak on the topic “what is travelling? and how can people travel?”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  II. Warming-up:  1) Let’s guess the topic of our today’s lesson. I have a massage with a code. Guess the massage using the code.

                      3) Phonetic drill. Pay your attention to such sounds as ng- [ŋ] in the words “travelling, playing, doing, going” and u-[ʌ] in the words “fun, run, bus, jump”.

4) So, at today’s lesson we are going to speak on the topic “Travelling”.

  1. MAIN PART

             1) Mind Map. Brainstorming.

 T: What things do you associate with the word “travelling”? Let’s draw the mind map to the topic. Think over in groups, each group has to write two associations:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2) Game “Make a sentence”

And now you have to make up sentences using the mind map

1. Travelling means to visit different places.

2. Travelling means to go on holidays.

3. Travelling means …

 

IV. 1) New vocabulary:  It’s not a secret that travelling is fun. But how can people  travel?

  1. Ex. 1, p.192 (listen, point and repeat)
  2. Writing: Complete the sentences
  1. Travelling _____ is fast and comfortable.
  2. We can enjoy a sightseeing tour in London by double decker ____ .
  3. When you travel _____ you can stop where you want.
  4. Travelling ______ is good for health and cheap.
  5. You can travel _____ in the sea.

Relaxation: Song “If You Happy…”

IV. 2. Reading: Ex. 2, p.193

  1. Look at the picture, whom can you see there? What are they doing? Read and be ready to answer the questions:
  • Why is travelling fun?
  1. Read and choose the right word: Ex. 3, p.194
  2. Let’s write the letter to Taras and answer to his questions.

V. Home Task: Ex. 1, p.192 (сл., вивчити),  Ex. 4, p.194 (письмово)

Summarizing: What did we speak about? What kinds of transport do you know?

What can you do and what do you know? Let’s see we are good gardeners. Are your apples ripe now? (Учні виходять до дошки з “яблуками», на яких написано, що вони вміють і що вони знають).
