Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about the weather; to use a new set of the weather vocabulary in oral and writing speech.

Subsidiary:
to develop  pronunciation skills, listening and speaking skills;
to revise and practise Present Simple Tense;
to develop pupils` memory, logical thinking and to motivate pupils in learning English.

Materials and resources: New Challenges 1, Pearson, SB-p.51, 103; WBp.47; handouts, CDs.

Procedure

I. The beginning of the lesson

1. Greeting

Good day, everyone! `m glad to see you. How are you getting on?
I hope you are doing well and you`ll be active ,supportive and enthusiastic at  the lesson.

II. The main part

  1. The aim.
    T.Today we start to study a new topic. And let`s guess what the topic of our lessons.
  1. Warm up. Handouts `Field of Dreams`
    T.Students, you have to give right answers to my questions. For every correct answer, I give you the letter. Your task is to collect all letters and complete the word. This word is the topic of our lesson.

Tasks:

  1. Spell the word tracksuit. (W)
  2. What is she wearing? (e)
  3. What is it? (a)
  4. What do you wear when it`s cold? (t)
  5. Rebus SUNGLASSES (h)
  6. What`s the hottest season of the year? (e)
  7. What do you usually take with you when it`s raining? (r)

T. So, `The Weather` is our lesson`s topic. Have you already studied it?

3. Work with lexical materials (the weather vocabulary). Listening and speaking.

3.1 Students check  the meaning of the Key Words in the Picture Dictionary.
3.2 Students listen how the words are  pronounced.
3.3 Students choose the adjectives to describe the pictures in the SB p.51

  • Students listen and repeat the places (1-6) and the weather (a-f).

  4. Wales                        d) warm and rainy
  5. Midlands                   e) hot and sunny
  6. South East                f) warm but cloudy​

b) Listen to a British weather report. Match the places with the weather.

And now a look at today`s weather.
Up in Scotland, well, it`s bad today. It`s cold and snowy, yes, snowy and icy in Scotland today.
And in the North East, well, it`s bad there, too. It`s very cold and windy and rainy, not very good. Cold, rainy, windy, up there in the North East.
In the North West, it`s okay. It`s rainy but it is warm there. Mm, warm and rainy in the North West.
Over in Wales, well, it`s not very nice. It`s very wet, and it`s foggy, too. Yes, foggy and wet this morning in Wales.
The Midlands now, well the Midlands, it`s okay, quite warm at the moment but a bit cloudy.
And, er, good news in the South East, it`s lovely. A lovely morning here in the South East! Hot and sunny, mm…. time for some music.

7. Relaxing. Pair work. `Dice game`. Handouts.

Each pair receives a board game and a dice. The task is to throw a dice and answer the questions.
