T: We are going to continue our topic “Nature and Weather”. Today we’ll speak about the role of water in our life. By the end of the lesson you will be able to: identify core vocabulary; understand the text and the video about water and its pollution; describe causes and effects of water contamination; explore the steps to control water pollution.

4. Vocabulary practice
T: Our nature is in danger because people pollute the environment. There are three main types of pollution: air pollution, water pollution and land pollution. Let’s identify them doing the exercise from the Wordwall. This test is not mine, it’s created by Matthewphillips .

5. Reading
5.1. Pre-reading activities:
T: Now we’ll learn more about water pollution. Wikipedia says:
Water pollution (or aquatic pollution) is the contamination of water bodies, with a negative impact on their uses. It is usually a result of human activities.
T: Open your books on p. 184, find exercise 4. Let’s learn some new vocabulary. Listen and read the new words and their definitions.
1. essential - completely necessary
2. ice cap - a large area of ice that covers the land and sea around the North and South Pole
3. glacier - a very large mass of ice that moves slowly
4. to poison - to create pollution that damages part of the environment; to have a bad influence on something; to make someone very ill by giving poison
5. habitat - the type of a place that animals normally live in or plants grow in
6. to damage - to have a negative effect on someone or something; to harm something physically
7. congestion - a situation in which a place is covered with people or vehicles
8. sewage - waste substances, especially waste from people’s activities removed from houses and buildings by a system of large underground pipes
9. to pour - to cause any liquid to flow from something to something
10. to cause - to make something happen, usually something bad
11. effect - a change that is produced in one person or thing by another
T: Find and read the sentences with the words “essential”, “ice cap” in the text of ex. 5 p. 185.
5.2. While-reading activities (ex. 5 p. 185):

T: Look through the text again. Find and read the sentences with the word “contamination”.
5.3. Post-reading activities:
