Objectives:
- to refresh and to extend a students' vocabulary on the topic "School Life";
- to develop students' speaking s, their logical and critical thinking;
- to concentrate students' attention on the topic and promote their curiosity;
- to learn more about schooling and the society they live in;
- to bring up true patriots of the country they live in.
Equipment: topical pictures, a video-projector, a CD-player, envelopes with tasks inside, a microphone
Procedure
I. Introduction
T: Good morning, everyone! Nice to meet you!
Ss: Good morning, teacher! Nice to see you, too!
T: Sit down, please. As for me, I feel wonderful today. And what about you? How are you?
Ss: life goes its usual way.
T: OK. I am glad to hear that everybody has got a very good mood today. So, let's start our lesson!
II. Warming-up
T: Now it's time for warming-up. Some questions to you all:
1) What season is it now?
2) What are autumn (winter,...) months?
3) What month is it now?
4) Is it warm (cold) today?
5) What is the temperature?
6) Is it fine or dull today?
7) Are there any clouds in the sky?
8) Is the weather changeable in autumn (in winter,...)?
9) What colour is the sky?
10) Do you like today's weather?
III. Main Part of the Lesson
1. Reciting poems
T: We'll start with reciting some poems about different seasons. You' ve already learnt many poems. Who wants to try reciting some of them?
( The slides are being shown on the projector. Some students are reciting the poems they have learnt while the others are watching the slides.)
S1: The summer is over.
The trees are bare.
There is mist in the garden
And frost in the air.
S2: The summer is over.
September comes.
October and November
Are also autumn months.
S3: I like all trees in autumn time.
Their leaves look bright and very fine.
The leaves are yellow, red and brown.
They keep on falling slowly down.
S4: Warm September brings us school.
Days are shorter, nights are cool.
Fresh October brings much fruit,
Then to gather them is good.
Red November brings us joy,
Fun for every girl and boy.
T: That's enough! Thank you very much for your poems.
2. Vocabulary Practice
T: And now it's time for revising some active vocabulary on the topic "School Life". Your task is to write down the words which you associate with the word "school" in your exercise-books and make up some sentences with them. You've got five minutes. After that you have to read your words and sentences with them. Is it clear? OK. Let's begin to work!
3. Mixed sentences
T: And now you'll get envelopes with sentences inside, but these sentences are cut into individual words. Your task is to restore the following sentences:
1) study, subjects, many, We, at, school.
2) very, school, nice, Our, is.
3) Our, lessons, at, begin, o'clock, eight.
4) The, lessons, in, pupils, get, marks, good, and, excellent.
5) Yard, a, big, school, our, at, There, is.
Keys:
1) We study many subjects at school.

T: Well done! You've been very quick and you've done a very good job. I'm pleased with you.
4. Relaxation
T: Are you tired?
Ss: Yes, we are.
T: Let's have fun and act out some humorous stories.
Story 1
S1: Ann, give me your pen, please.
S2: Why don't you want to write with your pen?
S1: It makes so many mistakes.
Story 2
S1: Is your son a good pupil?
S2: Yes, he is. He wants to know all the subjects so well. That's why he stays in every class for two years.
Story 3
S1: Mike, your Ukrainian exercises are always better than your English ones.
S2: It is because my mother doesn't know English.
Story 4
S1: Pete, why are you late for school every morning?
S2: When I go to school and come to the crossing I see the words: "School - go slow!"
T: Well done! It was really funny.
5. Listening Comprehension
T: Now you are going to listen to the story about one of the En school-girls. Her name is Jane. She is from Great Britain. She is ten. You have to listen to the text twice and find out what Jane's favourite subjects are.
One Day of my Life
Monday is my favourite day! I get up at half past seven, eat my breakfast and at eight o'clock I go to school. I sometimes ride my bike to school.
I like Mondays, because at nine o'clock I've got English. I have lunch at twelve o'clock. At two o'clock I have Music. I like Music very much! It's interesting.
I go home at half past three. In the afternoon I always do my homework. Then at a quarter to seven I watch TV, but I never go to bed late. I always go to bed at ten o'clock.
T: Now answer my question "What are Jane's favourite subjects?"(English and Music)
You are right! Listen to the text again and be ready to do the new tasks.

T: Look at the screen. Here you can see some sentences. You have to read them and say which of them are true and which are false.

Kate: Hello! My name is Kate. I'm a press girl from the newspaper "School Time". I'd like to ask you some questions:
1. What's your favourite day at school?
2. How many lessons do you have on Monday?
3. What's your favourite subject?
4. Do you like English? Why?
5. How many English lessons have you got a week?
6. Do you play sports after classes?
7. When do you have home?
7. Projects Presentation
T: I'm sure that all of you like going to school and that of you are hardworking and diligent students. And as far as I can see, all of you are true patriots of your Motherland, of your hometown, and I hope you'll do all you can make the life in our country better in the nearest future. I know each of you has got something that he/she likes best of all and something that you would like to see here in the future. So, now I want you to present your projects.
(All the students were divided into two teams at the previous lesson. Each team is presenting its projects.)
T: Thanks a lot! Your projects are wonderful! I liked all of them. You're very smart and cute. I'm proud of you!
IV. Summing-up. Home Assignment
T: Our lesson is coming to its end. You have done a lot of work today. I'm pleased with all of you.
