Lesson procedure
Good morning, everybody! I’m very glad to see you in good mood at today’s lesson. Take your seats, please and let’s start our lesson during which we’ll be discussing one of the most burning questions in our life “Is our planet in danger”?
But before talking about natural problems I want you to look on the blackboard and admire the pictures of beauty and kindness of nature. In all times people sang glory of nature with the help of pictures, photos, music and songs.
(The work with the song:
The students are given strips of paper on which lines of Louis Armstrong’s song “What a beautiful world” are typed. The students must make up the song correctly and then check themselves while listening to the song.)
Please, tell me, which adjectives can help us describe the beauty and calmness of nature (students give their variants and the teacher widens this list of the adjectives)
At the previous lesson we spoke about natural disasters. Look at the pictures. What natural disasters can you see on them? Think of the adjectives describing the cruelty of nature.
(somebody is called to the blackboard and signs the pictures describing the natural disasters: flood, famine, tornado, tsunami, drought, earthquake, volcano eruption, forest fire
Please, tell me, which adjectives can help us describe the cruelty of nature (students give their variants and the teacher widens this list of the adjectives)
And now I want you to think of synonyms to some of the names of natural disasters and write them down.
Famine, hunger, starvation
Drought, dry, drouth
Flood, deluge, inundation, floodwaters, overflow
Earthquake, seism, temblor
Eruption, eructation
Disaster, hazard, peril, menace, threat, danger
Catastrophe, accident, collapse, smash
Your home task for today was to prepare reports about Natural Disasters. So be very attentive because after the presentation you will be asked some questions about the facts mentioned in the reports of the students.
Listening + discussing
At the end of the lesson the students are offered to listen to M. Jackson’s “Earth song” and make a conclusion: “Are people responsible for what is happening to our planet now?”
If we saw (became a witness of) some examples of natural disasters we would die of fear. (Second Conditional)
