Aims: to develop pupils’ reading, speaking, listening and writing skills, to let them collaborate during the lesson, to focus their attention on pronunciation, to give the learners guided practice in using topical vocabulary in conversation.
Objectives: by the end of the lesson students will be able to make their own story about their hometown using 14 new words, grammar structure “there is/there are”
Lead-in stage
Aim: to present the topic the way students get the idea of the lesson
Procedure: there are some words written on the board. Pupils have to unscramble them to guess the topic of the lesson
Time: 2 min
Interaction: T-3S
Stage 1: Greeting. Warm up. Fly swats. Cards denoting Buildings
Aim: to check pupils’ knowledge of the topical vocabulary
Procedure: 2 pupils come to board and after the teacher says the word in Ukrainian hit it with the fly swat
Time: 3 min
Interaction: T-4 students
Stage 2: Eggs with riddles.
Aim: to maintain pupils’ knowledge of the topical vocabulary
Procedure: pupil take 1 egg from the magic box, open it, reads the riddle and guess the building
Time: 5 min
Interaction: T-8 students
Stage 3: Prepositions of place.
Aim: to let the learners be able to orient themselves in the town
Procedure: there is the town map on the board, pupils have to look and write about buildings’ placement in their exercise-books, then read
Time: 10 min

Stage 4: Action song.
Aim: to lead the learners in “giving directions- How to get to?”, to make the atmosphere of the lesson more relaxed
Procedure: acting the same “How do I get to the cinema?”

Stage 5: Spin the wheel and say how you get to school
Aim: to develop pupils’ speaking skills, to practice topical vocabulary
Procedure: 2 pupils: one asks, another spins the wheel and responds ex. How do you get to school?- I get to school by taxi.

Interaction: T-S1, S2; S1-S2, S1-S2 (3 pupils)
Stage 6: Blindfold. Giving directions.
Aim: to let the learners be able to give directions using phrases: go straight, turn left, turn right, keep going, stop
Procedure: the teacher ties pupil’s eyes with a scarf. There is some picture of the building on the board, one of the pupils gives directions, another who is blindfold has to get to it using chalk/marker
Time: 6 min
Interaction: S1-S2; S1-S2
Stage7: My hometown. There is/There are
Aim: to practice grammar construction there is/ there are and let the students be able to make 6 sentences using it.
Procedure: the teacher explains gr, topic to the class then students do ex. 1, p. 28.
Time: 7 min
Interaction: S1-S2; S1-S2
Stage 8: “My hometown” pupils’ presentation.
Aim: to let all the students understand their home task
Procedure: 2 pupils one after another tell about their hometown
