Outcomes

by the end of the lesson the students will be able to speak about the countries the United Kingdom consists of and their nationalities and about the souvenirs you can buy in the UK

Procedure
Lead-in

Ask students to answer the questions:

What is this text about?
What souvenirs can you buy in every country?
What are the symbols of these countries?

Explain to students that the UK is made of four different countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Point out that English is spoken in all of these countries but each country has its own accent.

Ask students to match the countries to the nationalities:

2	England	B	Scottish
3	Scotland	C	Northern Irish
4	Wales	D	English
5	Northern Ireland	E	British

Ask students to read the statements and correct the wrong ones.

Pair work.

Divide students into pairs.Ask students to tell where the souvenirs are from, like this:

Where is the scarf from?
It’s from Scotland. The scarf is Scottish.
Where is the stuffed toy from?
It’s from Scotland. The stuffed toy is Scottish.
Where are the toy buses from?
They are from England. The toy buses are English.
Where is the pin?
It’s from England. The pin is English.
Where is the hat?
It’s from Northern Ireland. The hat is Irish.
Where is the mug from?
It’s from Wales. The mug is Welsh.

Ask them to choose a souvenir and describe it to their partners:

Which country is it from?
What does it look like?

Ask students to complete the summary with the words from the text.

In the UK, you can buy lots of _____________. In Wales, you can buy_______. In England, you can buy _______ and _______________. In Scotland, you can buy __________________ and __________________. In Northern Ireland, you can buy ____________ with _______________.

Ask students to think about the questions they would like to ask about the souvenirs you can buy in the UK. Write two of the best questions on the blackboard.

Home Task

Tell students to make a presentation about the souvenirs from our country. Brainstorm the ideas and write them on the board.
