The subject: Schools in Britain and in Ukraine

Level: Pre–intermediate

The objectives:

  •          to practice learners in using topical vocabulary;
  •          to develop learners’ listening and speaking skills;
  •          to develop learners’ critical and logical thinking;
  •          to encourage learners to work in groups;
  •          to practice learners in using different digital tools;
  •          to broaden learners outlook

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the lesson the students

  • will be able to use the topical vocabulary in their speech;
  • will be able to speak about the peculiarities of the education system оf Britain and Ukraine;
  • will be able to make a list of similarities and differences between two systems of education

Pre-lesson Task:

1. Warming-Up

Greeting. Information about the subject of the lesson and the aims.

What is common and what is different?

Work in groups. Class is divided into two groups (if it’s an online lesson, students work in break-out rooms).

Group 1 makes a list of similarities of secondary education in Britain and in Ukraine.

Group 2 makes a list of differences of secondary education in Britain and in Ukraine.

Presentation.

Each group presents its work (if it’s an online lesson, digital whiteboards can be used for the presentations of the groups).
