Recipes

 

Objectives:

  • practical: to practise active vocabulary on the topic; to revise vocabulary and communicative formulas to give pupils possibility to speak in the situations; to develop free speaking using personal experience and knowledge on the topic; to practise pupils’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
  • educational: to develop creative imagination and logical thinking; to get acquainted with different recipes.
  • cultural: to widen pupils’ knowledge about food; to broaden pupils’ interest to English.

Equipment: cards with tasks, students’ book by A. Nesvit, laptops.

 

PROCEDURE

  1. Introduction

T: Good morning, dear friends! Nice to see you!  How are you?

P: We’re fine! And what about you?

T: I’m fine, too! Thank you! Sit down, please! The topic of our lesson is hidden and to find it out you should answer the questions. Are you ready? Let`s start. ( slide 1)

Can you read the topic of the lesson? What do you think you`ll learn at today`s lesson?

P: We`ll speak about food and how to cook it. By the end of the lesson you will be able to tell the recipe of a dish.

 

  1. Phonetic exercise

T: a)Yes, but first we`ll practice our pronunciation (slide2)

Listen to the speaker and repeat:

Eat, ice-cream, meat, tea, peas, egg, bread, breakfast, healthy, steak.

  1. Main part of the lesson.

 

I.  Vocabulary practice

A) Work in groups. Look at the words in the line and help me to find the odd word out.

          1. water, coke, bread, milk, tea, juice;

2. pineapple, beetroot; peach, pear;

3. salt; sugar, cream, a plate of soup;

4. slice, cut, chop, boil, peel;

5. glass, napkin, bowl, plate, cup;

6. potato, carrot, plum, cabbage, onion.

B)

What is your favourite dish? Do you know what ingredients you need to make it? Look at the picture (slide 3,4, 5) What dish is this? What do you think what ingredients are in this salad?

Now read the ingredients and guess the name of the dish.

 

c) We have the ingredients but what can we do with them. Your homework was to learn and revise cooking verbs now we`ll check it.

Work in pairs. Your task is to match the word with the picture

 

Reading

You know, I’m going to make an omelette. But what a pity. My cat’s spilled my tea on the recipe. I cannot read it. Will you help me, please?

Ingridients:                                   

 

2 eggs

1 cup of milk

Salt

 

Serve, pour, mix, fry, add, sprinkle, break

Pepper

Oil

 

 

 

 

Instructions:

First____ 2 eggs into a bowl, then ____ a cup of milk, ___ some salt and pepper, and  ___everything. Put the mixture into a frying pan with oil. ____ it for 7 minutes. Next ____ the omelette with cheese. _____ it with pieces of toast. Enjoy your meal!

 

 

 

c) Are you tired? Let’s relax and sing a song. Sing and act.

T: Do you like cooking shows? Have you ever watched any? What is your favourite cooking show? Today you `ll learn how to make a banana split. What do you think what ingredients we need to make it?

 

T: Look at the pictures. Watch, and tick what ingredients are in this dish to your mind.

Now imagine that we have a cooking show and going to make a banana split. I need a host of the show and one quest. Any volunteers?
