Цілі:
- виховувати всебічно розвинуту особистість через отримання країнознавчих
знань;
- підтримувати та стимулювати інтерес учнів до вивчення англійської мови;
- вчити гарно та ввічливо спілкуватися іноземною мовою;
- прищеплювати почуття поваги до звичаїв та традицій англомовних
країн.
Обладнання: карти Великобританії та США, ілюстрації, картки із завданнями,
магнітофон.

Цілі:
- виховувати всебічно розвинуту особистість через отримання країнознавчих

- підтримувати та стимулювати інтерес учнів до вивчення англійської мови;
- вчити гарно та ввічливо спілкуватися іноземною мовою;
- прищеплювати почуття поваги до звичаїв та традицій англомовних
країн.
Обладнання: карти Великобританії та США, ілюстрації, картки із завданнями,
магнітофон.
Хід заходу:
Teacher: Attention, please!
Hi, boys and girls! Teachers and guests! We are glad to see you here. As
you know we are having the English language week now. During this week a lot
of interesting events are taking place in our school: different exhibitions, shows
and contests.
Pupil 1: Welcome to our contest! The best greetings to our participants and guests!
Pupil 2: So two teams are competing today. There are 6 pupils in each team and each team
has its captain.
Pupil 1: Let us introduce the teams and the captains. And the teams will present their
emblems and mottos.
Team’s presentation ( a name, an emblem, a motto ).
Teacher: Let’s greet our teams and applaud them!
Pupil 2: As every contest we need a jury to keep the score and to choose the winner. Let us
introduce our today’s jury. Please, greet our jury!
Pupil 1: There are also a lot of fans today. You may support your teams, but be quiet, keep
silence and do not prompt (if you prompt, your team will loose points).
Pupil 2: And now some words about the rules. You have to answer different questions in
turn and do some tasks. For each right answer you will get 1 point. If one team
doesn’t give the right answer, the other team will have an opportunity to answer.
Teacher: Are the teams ready? I wish you good luck and let’s start. Let the jury choose the
best!

2.The second round. Geography Quiz.
( answer 4 questions and get from 1 point till 4)
10) What city is the Statue of Liberty situated in? (New York)
11) Where does the President of the USA live and work? (in the White House)
12) What country is bigger in size: the USA or Canada? (Canada)
3. The third round. Guessing places of interest
( look at the pictures and call the names of famous places in Great Britain and the USA. Tell, what you know about each of them ) ( 12 points )
4. The fourth round. The names of the buildings.
(write down the names of the buildings where the action is taking place) (6 points).

5. The fifth round. Customs and Traditions.
(each team will answer 6 questions and may get from 1 point till 4)

3) This famous English poet was ten, when he inherited the title of Lord. He lived only to 36. Do you know the name of this man? (George Gordon Byron)
4) He is the hero of many ballads and plays, because he robbed the rich and helped the poor. He lived in the Sherwood Forest with his merry men. What is the name of this famous robber? (Robin Hood)
5) The popular symbol of this holiday is an empty pumpkin which looks like a face with burning eyes. Children go from house to house and knock at the door, calling “trick or treat”. What English holiday is it about? (Halloween)
6) Who was the first President of the USA? (George Washington)
7) When was the independence of the USA declared (on July 4th, 1776)
8) What famous sport game is of American origin: football, basketball or hockey? (basketball)
9) Who and when discovered America? (Christopher Columbus in 1492)
10) What colour is the official residence of all presidents of the USA? (white)
11) How is the American flag called? (Stars and Stripes)
12) What is the administrative part of London? (Westminster)
6. The sixth round. Matching proverbs.
( match the parts of 3 proverbs and give their Ukrainian equivalents ) ( 9 points)
