T: Now choose one word from the list which is the most suitable for your character. And say it with its definition.

f.e.  I am creative. I can produce new ideas.

TASK 2

T: I know that all of you are energetic, creative and so on, and I also know that you have already tried to find a job, but unsuccessfully. Share what happened?

(The students tell how they tried to get a job.)

TASK 3

Listening

T: To begin with I’ve invited the psychologists who will give you some tips. Let’s try to have a look on getting a job from the point of view of an employer who wants to hire a good specialist. Well, psychologists! You are welcome.

(Two pupils take the floor with the prepared reports.)

P.1- If your employer likes your CV you will get an interview. An interview is a final step when your employer meets you in person asks you questions and sometimes tests your abilities. But there are situations when you don’t even realize you are being tested.

P.2- A very successful South West Airlines, one of America’s most attractive employers says: “We are not interested in qualifications or experience. We can train that kind of stuff. We look for people with a nice personality and a sense of humor.”

P.1- Another successful employer once told me that, for him, the best indicator of potential management ability is an applicant’s driving style. The first interview usually takes place in a car, and the applicant has to answer questions while driving through city traffic.

P.2- Another interviewer invited applicants to lunch to a cafe. And if they made a mistake of salting their food before tasting it, he didn’t hire them.

P.1- Think like an employer. He wants to know how you think and feel. He will probe your character.

P.2- In reality, your role and that of your interviewer overlap. Both of you are gathering information, selling a product and evaluating whether or not there is a match between you.

P.1- Leave the room making him desperate to hire you.

T: Our psychologists told you about the ways of organizing job interviews in the situations when you don’t even realize you are being tested. Now will you answer my question?

Where do job interviews sometimes take place?

PP: (possible answers - in a cafe, in a car).

TASK 4

T: A job interview is your chance to present your talents to a prospective employer. But you have to prepare for the interview: you should know how to act to make the interview an opportunity to “sell” your skills. The necessary information is in the texts which are located in different places of the classroom. Complete the list of 10 guidelines on preparing for, and attending an interview.

HOW TO SUCCEED AT AN INTERVIEW

A

Preparing for the interview

1

Find as much information as possible about the company you are going to for an interview.

Text 1

     What makes a good interview?

First, a good preparation before the interview.

Three simple guidelines will help you. Guideline number one is – find out as much as possible about the company where you are going for an interview. For example, you can get a lot of useful information from the company’s brochures, annual reports, and catalogues. Two, find out if the interview is with one person or with a group of people, and what their jobs are. It’s very useful to know something about the interviewers before you meet them. And three, make a checklist of the questions you want to ask at the interview. Remember an interview is a two-way process. The company finds out as much as possible about you, and you find out as much as possible about the company.

So, that’s what you need to do before the interview.

      Text 2

             Now the interview itself.

There are seven guidelines to remember here. Guideline number one: dress smartly. A suit or something formal is best. Two, arrive in good time. Arriving late for the interview is the worst thing you can do. Rule number three: create a good first impression. First impressions are very important. Start the interview with a smile, a firm handshake, and a friendly manner. Guideline number four: try to stay positive and relaxed during the interview. As a rule, people don’t feel relaxed, but your body language gives the interviewer a lot of information about you. Number five: don’t give only “Yes” or “No” answers. Talk freely, give reasons for your opinions, and explain why you are interested in the job. Six: ask questions. Show you are interested. Seven: learn from the interview. Analyse your performance afterwards and think how you can improve the next time.

T: Which guidelines do you think are the most important?

TASK 5

T: You must remember that there are both DOs and DON’Ts for Job Seekers. I offer to insert all the DOs with the blue felt-tip pen and all the DON’Ts –  with the red one.

DOs and DON’Ts For Job Seekers.

let as many people as possible know you are “job hunting”.

                    accessorize too much.

                    have a good resume.

                    discuss your personal problems.

arrive late and breathless for an interview.

express your ideas on compensation, hours, etc. early in the interview.

T: Choose a job you love, and you will not have to work a day in your life. A good job is

a part of a person’s success in life. Douglas Malloch gives his point how to become  a

successful person. Read it, please, and make it shorter to 1 line. Try to omit the least

                     important ones.

The tree that never had to fight for sun and sky and air and light,
That stood out in the open plain and always got its share of rain,
Never became a forest king, but lived and died a scrubby thing.
Good timber does not grow in ease.
The stronger wind, the tougher trees…
