Мета: Ознайомити студентів із видами банківських послуг. Вчити студентів мовних кліше, які можуть бути використані в банках.

Студент повинен:

знати лексичний мінімум спілкування з теми, вирази, які можуть бути використані в банках;

вміти використовувати лексичний мінімум з теми при обміні валют та обслуговуванні клієнтів у банках.

Different Types of Bank Services

Individual Banking—Banks typically offer a variety of services to assist individuals in managing their finances, including:

  • Checking accounts
  • Savings accounts
  • Debit & credit cards
  • Insurance*
  • Wealth management

Business Banking—Most banks offer financial services for business owners who need to differentiate professional and personal finances. Different types of business banking services include:

  •    Business loans
  •    Checking accounts
  •    Savings accounts
  •    Debit and credit cards
  •    Merchant services (credit card processing, reconciliation and reporting, check collection)
  •    Cash management (payroll services, deposit services, etc.)

Digital Banking—The ability to manage your finances online from your computer, tablet, or smartphone is becoming more and more important to consumers. Banks will typically offer digital banking services that include:

  • Online, mobile, and tablet banking
  • Mobile check deposit
  • Text alerts
  • eStatements
  • Online bill pay

Loans—Loans are a common banking service offered, and they come in all shapes and sizes.  Some common types of loans that banks provide include:

  • Personal loans
  • Home equity loans
  • Home equity lines of credit
  • Home loans
  • Business loans

Yes, I'd like to open a savings account, please.

Cashier: You'll need to speak to one of our customer service advisers about that.

Customer: Oh, I see.

Cashier: If you take a seat over there, somebody will be with you shortly.

Customer: Thank you.

IIIb. Listen again. How does the cashier respond? Match the responses with the requests in exercise III a.

IV. Work with a partner. Make the requests and responses from exercise III.

VI. Make conversations with a partner. One person is a customer and one is a cashier. Choose two activities from exercise 3a. Use the conversation in exercise 2 as a model.


Dramatize the conversation with your partner.

  1. Setting up a Bank Account

A: How are things with you?
B: I'm fine. Thank you.
A: May I help you with something?
B: I want to open a bank account.
A: Do you know what kind of account you want to open?
B: I want to open a checking account.
A: You should also open a savings account.
B: That would be great.
A: To open these accounts, you will need to make a deposit of at least $50.
B: I would actually like to deposit $300 today.
A: Let me do that for you now.
B: Please put $150 in each account for me.

  1.      Asking about Checks

A: How's it going?
B: I'm fine. Thank you.
A: May I help you?
B: I have a question.
A: Ask away.
B: How can I order new checks?
A: If you want, you can order some right now.
B: I would like to do that right now.
A: First, you need to fill out this application.
B: What else do I have to do?
A: Give it about a week, and you should get your checks in the mail.
B: I appreciate your help. Here's my application.

3. Making a Deposit

A: How are you?
B: I'm fantastic!
A: What can I help you with?
B: I want to make a deposit today.
A: Cash or check?
B: It will be cash today.
A: How much do you want to deposit?
B: I need to deposit $300.
A: What account will you be depositing this money into?
B: Deposit it into my checking account.
A: What else can I do for you today?
B: That's all I need today. Thanks.

4. Transferring Money

A: How are you doing?
B: Great. Thanks.
A: May I help you with something? 
B: I would like to transfer some money.
A: Where would you like to transfer money from?
B: Take it from my savings account.
A: Where would you like the money transferred?
B: I want it transferred into my checking account.
A: How much would you like to transfer?
B: I would like to transfer $200.
A: Will that be all today?
B: That's it for today. Thank you.

    Дуже дякую за матеріал і за посилання на джерела. Стане невідмінним при вивченні англійської мови у групах бухгалтерського обліку та секретарів, оскільки таких матеріалів ще мало в мережі Інтернет.
