Cinderella
Once upon a time,
There was a beautiful child.
“My name is Cinderella
And I have a hard life.
I live with my stepmother
(My dad married her several years ago!)
She had two spoiled daughters
And her heart is as hard as a stone.”
They treated Cinderella very badly,
She had to work all day.
Cinderella was dressed in rugs
And she had no time to play.
One day, they were invited
To a ball at the king’s palace
But Cinderella wasn’t allowed to go
Because she didn’t have what to dress up.
Cinderella was made to sew
New party gowns for her stepsisters.
“I wish I could go with you,”
Poor Cinderella whispered.
When everybody was ready to go,
They went to the ball.
They got on a horse-drawn carriage,
Leaving Cinderella alone at home.
Cinderella felt very sad
And began to cry.
Suddenly a fairy appeared,
“Don’t cry! It will be a magical night!
Don’t cry, Cinderella!
I will send you to the ball.”
“But I have nothing to wear.
Look! My shoes are very old!”
The fairy waved her magic wand
And changed Cinderella’s dress.
Then she touched her feet –
There were slippers made of glass!
Cinderella was happy,
She set off for the ball.
But the fairy warned her,
“At midnight you must be at home!”
When Cinderella entered the palace,
Everybody was struck by her beauty.
Nobody knew who she really was.
“Who is a sandy-haired cutie?”
The handsome prince also saw her
And fell in love with a beautiful lady.
The prince danced with her all night,
She was as fresh as a daisy.
He came up to her and asked,
“Do you want to dance?”
“Yes!” The prince dance with her.
Others had no chance.
Cinderella was so happy
To dance with the man
That she almost forgot
The fairy’s plan.
At the last moment, she remembered
The fairy’s exact words.
“Oh! I must go!” she cried
And flew away like a pretty bird.
One of the glass slippers
Was lost on the stairs.
She reached home at midnight.
Cinderella was in despair!
Her stepmother and stepsisters
Reached home shortly after that.
They were talking about the beautiful lady.
They were always glad to chat!
The next day, the prince
And his servants took the shoe
And went to all houses.
“Who does it belong to?”
All the women in the kingdom
Tried the slipper but in vain.
The servants were afraid
The slipper would break.
Cinderella’s stepmother
Didn’t let her try it on.
But the prince insisted,
“Let her also try! Come on!”
The slipper fit her perfectly
For the stepmother it was a disaster.
Soon they were married
And lived happily ever after.
