1 Greeting
Today at the lesson we are going to talk about the life and art of Maria Pryimachenko. Pablo Picasso once said after visiting Pryimachenko's exhibition in Paris, "I bow down before the artistic miracle of this brilliant Ukrainian." "When I look at her paintings, I feel myself just like a baby in art in comparison with her".

The biography of Maria Pryimachenko
A. Mary Pryimachenko is the representative of naive art. Though she didn't study at any art schools her works became well known all over the world. The year 1936 was the beginning of global recognition for Mary Pryimachenko - her works were exhibited in Kiev, Moscow and St. Petersburg, the next year - in Paris. In 1957-1959 her works were represented abroad in Paris, Sofia and Vienna.
C. Maria Oksentiyivna Pryimachenko (Primachenko) was born January 12, 1909 in the village Bolotnya near Kiev. Maria was quite unfit for village life. Polio had crippled her when she was a little child. Her father, Oxentiy G. was a carpenter, and her mother, Paraska was a recognized embroidery master.
D. Famous artist died at the age of 88 on August 18, 1997 in her native village Bolotnya. Fortunately, Pryimachenko's artistic family continued. Maria's son was her best pupil - Fedir, now he is an honored artist of Ukraine.
B. A very interesting fact about Maria Pryimachenko is that she was right-handed, but she painted all her pictures with her left hand. Japanese use Mary Pryimachenko's drawings to illustrate their alphabet, Pablo Picasso admired the works of Ukrainian genius, and the year 2009 was announced UNESCO declared the year of Pryimachenko.
