Діалог про природні чудеса України

Sarah: Hey Tom, have you finished the reading on the Natural Wonders of Ukraine for our ecology project?

Tom: Almost! I’m honestly amazed by the Askania Nova Reserve. I never imagined finding herds of zebras, buffalo, and wildebeest roaming the steppes of the Kherson region. It’s like a slice of Africa right in Ukraine!

Sarah: It really is! The sources say it was the "brainchild" of a 19th-century German who imported animals from different continents to that unique natural steppe. But we should note that it’s often closed in summer due to steppe fire danger, so late spring or early autumn is the best time for a safari in a horse-drawn cart.

Tom: Good point. If you want to be near the water, the Isle of Dzharylhach sounds incredible. It’s the Black Sea’s biggest island and is teeming with wildlife like wild boars, deer, and mouflon. Plus, it has more than four hundred small salty lakes scattered across its territory.

Sarah: Speaking of water, I was reading about the Shatskiy National Nature Park. It has one of the biggest groupings of lakes in Europe, including Svitiaz, which is the deepest lake in Ukraine. It’s even recognized by UNESCO as part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Tom: It’s a vital spot for migrating birds to find food and rest, too. And don’t forget the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve in the southwest. They call the town of Vylcovo the "Ukrainian Venice" because of its network of canals.

Sarah: I’d love to visit the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve as well. The sources mention that 90% of it is virgin forest, home to rare flora and fauna. It’s also a major source of different types of mineral water.

Tom: It really highlights why these parks are so important. They represent a massive conservation effort to protect the best of our natural heritage.

Sarah: Exactly. By providing safe environments in which animals and plants can survive and thrive, these parks deliver invaluable health and cultural benefits to our whole society
