England is famous for Stonehenge. It was built about 5,000 years ago (2,000 BC). It is a circle of 83 stones. Maybe it was a place for studying the sun and the stars, maybe it was a temple. Every year, on June 21st, lots of people go to Stonehenge to celebrate the longest day of the year.

The poetic name of England is "Foggy Albion". It is the Latin word for "white." 2000 years ago (43AD) the Roman invaders saw the white cliffs of Dover and called this land "Albion". It is famous for its fogs which last for days and weeks in autumn and in winter. |
