Today we are going to speak about household chores.

Do you know the saying “A woman’s work is never done”? How do you understand it? Do you sometimes think about your family and a woman’s work? A little bit later we are going to discuss these things. But first let us practice some questions.

What is housekeeping?

   Housekeeping is everyday practice of domestic science in the home. It is the management of a home and the affairs of a home and family. It is what someone in your family has to do in spite of all the modern conveniences that towns-people have today.

   Life in the countryside, however, requires much more time and effort. Somebody has to chop wood and bring water for cooking and washing. You may have a vegetable garden, too, where you can grow vegetables for the table. You may keep chickens and other domestic animals. Somebody must take care of these.

   Domestic duties may take much of your time, but if all the members of the family help, if each one has his special duties, keeping house won’t be so difficult.

   Children help their parents in different ways. They can clean the house, make their beds, bring in dry things from the clotheslines, do the ironing and even cook simple meals. Junior schoolchildren lay the table and help with the washing-up. If the family large, the older children help to look after the little ones, and that is a great help to the mother.

   In this way children learn to do things for themselves, and get practice in housekeeping.

A Woman’s Work Is Never Done

   The mother of a family has a lot of work to do in the house. All day long she is busy, doing one thing or another.

   When Father goes to work, Mother goes to work, too. That’s why we try our best to help Mother.

   There is some dust on the floor every day. So we sweep the floor with a broom or clean it with a vacuum-cleaner. There is some dust on the furniture, too, on the tables, armchairs and chairs. We dust the furniture with duster. We make our beds ourselves, too, and try to keep our rooms clean and tidy.

   Mother doesn’t like when things are lying all over the place. She often says, “The right thing – in the right place”. And we try to keep our things in the right places.

   Doing the rooms, cooking meals and washing up takes a lot of time.

   We want Mother to rest. But she remembers: yesterday Tom fell down and made a hole in the trousers! So Mother takes some wool and a long needle and mends the trousers. Then she sees that a button from my coat is gone. She takes some thread and sews on a new button.

   Will Mother have a rest now? She looks at the clock: 6.30. Father will be home in a minute; she must get supper ready.

   There is always something to do, a woman’s work is never done.

   Let’s try our best to help our mothers!

Учням надаються фрази «домашня праця не варта справжнього чоловіка», «гарна мати повинна все віддати дітям, а потім подумати про себе», «успішність виховання дітей залежить від матері, ніж від батька».

Класу пропонується перекласти дані фрази і висловити свою думку щодо них.

Учні реагують на висловлювання товаришів, висловлюючи згоду, сумнів, незгоду, наприклад: I agree… Yes, definitely. It depends. Sure. I can’t  agree more. I disagree.

Conclusion. Підбиття підсумків обговорення.

Вчитель та учні приходять до спільного висновку що і чоловік і жінка, і тато і мама, і хлопчик і дівчинка рівні як особистості і тому повинні мати рівні можливості для свого розвитку, а це і є головною думкою гендерної рівності, тобто гендерних відносин у родині.
