Lesson Objectives:
Vocabulary: Learn and practice new vocabulary related to hobbies.
Grammar Focus: Review and practice the Present Simple and the Past Simple tenses.
Speaking: Engage in conversations about hobbies using both tenses.
Writing: Write short texts about personal hobbies in the past and present.

1. Warm-Up
Military Greeting: Start with the command: "Group, shun!" and cadets’ reporting.
Objective: Activate prior knowledge and introduce the topic of hobbies.
Activity: Start the class with a group discussion:
2. Vocabulary Introduction and Practice
Objective: Teach new hobby-related vocabulary and practice its usage.
Activity 1: Vocabulary Presentation
Activity 2: Vocabulary Matching Game
Give each cadet or pair of cadets a set of flashcards. One side has hobby words (e.g., "fishing"), and the other side has definitions (e.g., "catching fish with a rod").
3. Grammar Review: Present Simple & Past Simple Tense
Objective: Review the Present Simple and Past Simple tenses, focusing on how to describe hobbies.
Activity 1: Present Simple Tense Review
On the board, write a few example sentences using the Present Simple tense related to hobbies:

On the board, write a few example sentences using the Past Simple tense related to hobbies:
Activity 3: Grammar Practice
Give each cadet a worksheet with mixed sentences in the Present Simple and Past Simple. They must choose the correct tense for each sentence and fill in the blanks.

4. Speaking Practice: Pair Work
Objective: Use both tenses in conversation to talk about hobbies.
Activity: Hobby Interview
Divide cadets into pairs. Each cadet asks their partner about their hobbies using the Present Simple and Past Simple tenses.
Sample questions:
What hobbies do you enjoy now?
What did you do in your free time last year?
Did you play any sports as a child?
After the interview, each cadet shares something interesting they learned about their partner with the class.
5. Interactive Game: Guess the Hobby
Objective: Use hobby-related vocabulary in a fun, interactive activity.
Activity: Guess the Hobby
Divide cadets into two teams. One cadet from each team takes a card or object with a hobby written on it (e.g., reading, painting, swimming), but they do not show it to their teammates.
The cadet must describe the hobby (using the Present Simple tense) without saying the word. For example, if the word is "swimming," they might say:
"I do this in the water. I wear a swimsuit. You need to move your arms and legs."
The team must guess the hobby. The team with the most correct guesses wins!
6. Writing Activity
Objective: Write short texts about hobbies using the Present and Past Simple tenses.
Activity: My Hobbies - Past and Present
Ask cadets to write a short paragraph (3 sentences) about their current hobbies (using the Present Simple tense) and a hobby they enjoyed in the past (using the Past Simple tense).

Feedback and Wrap-Up:
Ask cadets what hobbies they enjoyed talking about.
Quickly review the Present Simple and Past Simple tenses by asking cadets a couple of questions related to the lesson.
End with a military command: “Group, shun! At ease, dismiss!”
Homework:
Write a short essay (6-8 sentences) about a hobby you enjoy now and a hobby you enjoyed when you were younger. Use both Present Simple and Past Simple tenses.
