The subject of the lesson: “Shops and Shopping”

Practical Aims:

-to revise lexis on the topic;

-to improve listening skills;

-to practice making up dialogues “At the shop”:

-to motivate the students in expressing their own opinion and views on the

topic;

 Developing Aims:

-to develop speaking skills;

-to develop the students’ communicative skills;

           -to develop students’ memory, logical thinking, quick reaction.

Visual Aids:

-copies for individual, pair, group work;

-a set of posters;

-a laptop.

Procedure of the Lesson:

  1. Preliminaries of the lesson:

Good morning. students! Take your seats. Today we’ve got a very interesting topic at our lesson - “Shops and Shopping”.

So, to start our lesson we’ll revise the names of fruit and vegetables, the names of the shops and learn the new ones. Then we’ll practice them in the sentences, doing crosswords. After that you’ll work in pairs and learn the questions: “What can you buy at different shops?” Then we’ll learn a grammar rule “Countable and uncountable nouns” and watch a video with the task. Later we’ll repeat the cardinal numerals and practice to pronounce the prices.

Warming up:

So, let’s repeat the names of vegetables and fruit. Write as many names as you can.

Homework check-up.

At home you needed to write some sentences about your breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’d like to listen to your answers. The first row will tell us about breakfast, the second - about lunch, the third – about dinner.

2.1 Revision of the lexics:

It’s time to revise words on our topic “Shops”. I have got a bag with different goods. Dear students, guess, where can you buy these things? ( A bag with different items).

1.grocer’s, 2. greengrocer’s, 3. shoe shop, 4. bookshop, 5. bakery/baker’s, 6. toyshop, 7. florist’s, 8. chemist’s, 9. newsagent’s, 10. record shop, 11. jeweller’s, 12. pet shop, 13. clothes shops, 14. stationer’s, 15. butcher’s, 16. fishmonger’s, 17. dairy shop, 18. sweet shop, 19. confectionery, 20. Supermarket

   - We can buy shoes, sneakers, boots and slippers at the shoes hop.

4.- What can you buy at the bookshop?

   - We can buy books at the bookshop.

5.- What can you buy at the baker’s?

   - We can buy bread and buns at the baker’s.

6.- What can you buy at the toyshop?

   - We can buy different toys at the toy shop.

7.- What can you buy at the florist’s?

   - We can buy flowers and plants at the florist’s.

8.- What can you buy at the chemist’s?

  -We can buy medicines at the chemist’s.

9.- What can you buy at the newsagent’s?

   -We can buy newspapers and magazines at the newsagent’s.

     -We can buy CDs at the record shop.

     -We can buy earrings and rings at the jeweller’s.

     -We can buy pets, accessories for pets and animal feed at the pet shop.

     -We can buy paints, glue, notebooks, brushes, envelopes and paper clips at the stationer’s.

15.-What can you buy at the butcher’s?

     -We can buy ham, sausages, pork, beef, lamb, chicken and minced meat at the butcher’s.

16.- What can you buy at the fishmonger’s?

     -We can buy caviar, salmon, prawns and canned fish at the fishmonger’s.

17.- What can you buy at the dairy shop?

     -We can buy butter, sour cream, yogurt and cheese at the dairy shop.

18.- What can you buy at the sweet shop?

     -We can buy candies, lollipops and chocolate at the sweet shop.

19.- What can you buy at the confectionary?

     -We can buy cakes at the confectionary.

20.- What can you buy at the supermarket?

     -We can buy everything at the supermarket.

Work in pairs

T: Well done. It`s high time for you to go shopping. It`s pair work. One of you is a shop assistant, the other is a customer. Your task is to make up a dialogue. Choose any shop you like going shopping. The example of a dialogue is on the screen.

Of course, you can add the necessary information. And show your creativity. I give you some minutes.
