Lesson Plan - English, 6th Grade
Topic: Free Time Activities

Lesson goals: practice vocabulary about hobbies and activities; improve speaking, writing and reading skills; encourage students to talk about themselves confidently.

Materials: flashcards, short text for reading, board, notebooks.

Warm-up (5 min)

Teacher greets the class and starts a short conversation: “How are you today?”, “Do you like weekends?”, “What do you do after school?” Then introduces the topic: “Today we are talking about what we do in our free time.”

Presentation (10–12 min)

Teacher presents vocabulary: to play football, to read books, to ride a bike, to watch TV, to play video games, to listen to music, to draw, to visit friends, to walk with a dog. Students repeat after the teacher.
Teacher asks: “Who likes playing video games?”, “Who rides a bike?”, several students answer.

Speaking practice (10 min)

Students work in pairs.
A: “What do you do in your free time?”
B answers with full sentences: “I often play football.” “I sometimes read books.”
Teacher walks around and helps if needed.

Reading (10 min)

Students read a short text:
“My name is Emma. After school I often listen to music. On Saturdays I play football with my friends. On Sundays I draw pictures or watch TV. I like weekends because I have a lot of free time.”

After reading, teacher asks: What does she do after school? When does she play football? What does she do on Sundays? Why does she like weekends?

Writing (8–10 min)

         Students write a short text about themselves (5–6 sentences) using learned vocabulary. Example: “I like playing with my dog. I often listen to music. On weekends I visit friends. I sometimes ride my bike.”

Wrap-up (5 min)

Teacher asks: “What new words did we use today?” “Who found people with similar hobbies?”
Students briefly respond.
Homework: make a small poster or notebook page “My Free Time” using at least 5 vocabulary words.
