Ukrainian National Symbols

Ukraine has got a long history. The word Ukraine was first mentioned  in the 12^th century. It was a geographical name for the land in the south of Kyivan  Rus. In old times the Ukrainian people used the blue and yellow colours in their national symbols. The colours of our flag are blue and yellow. Some people say that they are the colours of the golden sun and cloudless blue sky. The Golden Trident is our state emblem. It is the symbol of the Holy Trinity. The anthem of Ukraine “She lives on our Ukraine” was written and put to music by  P. Chubynsky and M. Verbytsky in the 19^th century.
