“Understanding motivation”
Theme: Understanding motivation in the classroom
Learning outcomes: By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
Materials needed: video, presentation, handouts, posters, stripes with questions, shapes of different colors for grouping and regrouping, sheets of paper.
Procedure:
Lead in: (participants sit in a circle) Close your eyes and whisper the word “motivation”. What or who comes to your mind? Share your ideas.
Brainstorming
Now take a stripe from the chair in the middle of our circle, read and answer the question written there (trainers answer the questions written on colorful papers)
How often do you try something new at your lessons?
Go back to your school years and describe your favourite teacher.
Are your students embarrassed to speak English in a lesson?
How often do you use songs at your lessons?
Are you a strict teacher?
Are you always well - organized at your lessons?
Do you write a lesson plan? Do you have plan “B”?
Do you teach pupils “how” and “why” not just facts?
Are grades punishment or reward?)

To work in groups we need a signal for me to draw your attention. So, when I say “ One , two, three look at me”, please finish your work and get ready to present your ideas.
Stages of the workshop:
Now, according to the color of the question you have taken organize yourselves in groups and take a seat at our working zones. We have four groups now.
We will watch presentation about the motivational factors. At your desks you have three stripes . Violet – you support the idea, blue- no, red - not sure. Read the idea, raise the stripe according to your opinion and express it. (Participants work individually)
Now, we will regroup. Take any shape from my box and organize in groups according to the shape. We have three groups now. Prepare and present the posters according to the chosen theme now. ( The participants chose the theme.) Do not forget about attention signal.
