Teaching English Through Songs at Primary School
According to modern strategies of teaching English at school it is important to create cultural environment for students. Cultural environment is everything that surrounds teaches and children in the process of studying, it helps form personality of a student, it motivates children to learn more about the language, the people and their culture.
A great role in creating such environment is given to English songs (modern songs or folklore). It’s important to know how to choose the songs:
While learning songs children learn a lot of new words, they develop their listening skills, songs are good exercises for reading, learning the concrete speech patterns. Songs help create relaxed atmosphere at the lessons, they give children the opportunity to move, to do some exercises, to express their emotions.
Presenting the Songs
Step 1.
Review or introduce the main structure found in the song.
Step 2.
Play the first version on the recording once to allow students to become familiar with the song.
Step 3.
Present the song line by line. Sing each line, then have the students repeat after you.
Step 4.
Play the recording, have the students read along with the lyrics. Play the first recording of the song several times and invite students to join in.
Step 5.
Sing the song with karaoke version.
Step 6.

The ABC song is the must of the lessons. There is no other way to learn the ABC in a good way. This song gives the opportunity to learn a lot of new words, to practise the sounds.
