Passive Voice (exercises with answers)

Task 1 .Translate the following sentences into Ukrainian. Pay attention to the Passive Voice.

1. The laboratory is cleaned every day.
2. The laboratory was cleaned yesterday.
3. The laboratory will be cleaned tomorrow.
4. The laboratory is being cleaned now.
5. The laboratory was being cleaned from 2 to 3 yesterday.
6. The laboratory has been cleaned. You can work here.
7. The laboratory had been cleaned by 7pm yesterday.
8. The laboratory will have  been cleaned by 7pm tomorrow

       Task 2. Translate the following sentences into Ukrainian and define the tense of each sentence.

1. This bookstore was built two years ago.
2. The car is being washed.
3. This building will be demolished next month.
4. This parcel has been brought by the courier.
5. The delegates will be met at the station.
6. When was the instruction written?
7. A lot of letters will have been written by 4pm tomorrow.
8. The telephone was invented in 1876.
9. The scientists say that this sculpture was made in the Roman Empire.
10.  I couldn’t drive yesterday at 6 o’clock. My car was being serviced.

Task 3. Put the verbs in brackets into the appropriate tense of the Passive Voice.

Task 4. Transform the following sentences from the Active into the Passive.

Model:  They often read this book. (Active Voice)

                   This book is often read. (Passive Voice)

1. They read this book yesterday. (Active Voice)
2. They will read this book tomorrow. (Active Voice)
3. They are reading it now. (Active Voice)
4. They have already read this book. (Active Voice)
5. They had read it by two o'clock. (Active Voice)
6. They will have read it by Sunday. (Active Voice)

Answers:
