A FOOT is a group of syllables that a line of poetry can be divided into. SIMILE-comparison of two things using Like and As. METAPHOR-a strong comparison without Like and As. PERSONIFICATION-giving human characteristics to objects and phenomena. ONOMATOPOEIA-words imitate the sounds they describe HYPERBOLE-exaggeration. IRONY-quite the opposite meaning. ALLITERATION-repetition of the same sound at the beginning of the words.
