                     УРОК У 9 КЛАСІ ЗА ПІДРУЧНИКОМ О. КАРПЮК

ІІ. Основна частина уроку.

1. T: Good afternoon boys and girls. I’m very glad to see you. Today we’ll try to make our lesson useful and interesting.  You will learn something new concerning mass media. To my mind our life is impossible without television, computer or newspapers.

T: What are the main sources of information ?

G 1: Mass media.

G 2: Books, people.

T : I completely agree with you.

 What does Mass media include ?

G 1: Newspapers, magazines, television.

G 2: Radio, Internet.

T: What books are the sources of information ?

G 1: Dictionaries, school textbooks.

G 2: Encyclopedias, references books.

T : What are the functions of mass media ?

G 1: Inform and entertain people.

G 2: Educate children and adults, shape public opinion.

T : We can’t live without reading or watching anything.

 It’s difficult to imagine our life without TV. But there are different opinions about it, it has both advantages and disadvantages. I want you to discuss this problem.

The first group: your point of view is TV is the best invention the man ever made.

The second group: your point of view is TV is the worst invention the man ever made. Try to give your arguments on each point of view.

G1: Thanks to television we have good opportunity for self – education, listening lectures on history, biology, physics, economics and other subjects.            Television programmmes gather big audiences. Apart from their entertainment value, they provide useful topics of conversation…

G2 : Many people do not concentrate when viewing – so their time is largely wasted. Some children have made television their main leisure activity and they are not enriching their personalities by developing hobbies and belonging to clubs.

Television may lead to poor health, through rushed meals, lack of sleep, lack of exercises, eyestrain…

T : Listen to the text and then do the tasks.

 Most people who read daily newspapers expect to see news from all over the world. The greatest numbers of newspapers have offices or reporters in their capital cities. Most national Ukrainian newspapers have their offices in Kyiv while some of the newspapers in the USA have their offices in Washington , D.C. They send their reporters to other cities around the world to bring news to their country. But most newspapers rely on news services for international news. These are the organizations that gather and sell news to papers and enen radio and television stations. The gathering of news from around the world has been greatly speeded up by the inventions of the telephone, cable, radio, fax machines and modern telecommunication system. Today stories and even pictures can be sent around the world in a few minutes.

Congratulations! Though some of you may watch TV than you probably should – especially if you scored 16 to 18 points – your life is definitely not ruled by what’s on and when.

7-10 points

No doubt about it…you’re the one in control, not the television. The only drawback may be that you won’t be able to chat with your friends about TV shows.
