Theme: The wonders of Ukraine (5th form)

Purpose: to practice new words based on the text; to develop speaking skills through different activities;
Equipment: laptop, cards, photos of the National Flag and the National Emblem, a video song.
Teacher’s expectations: at the end of the lesson students can name the proper names correctly, ask and answer the questions, speak about the country they live in and the places they can visit.
Plan:
Good morning, children. Nice to see you. Take your seats and let us start the lesson.
Well, could you tell me how you are today? (Teacher asks the children)
Now, ask your classmates how they are. ( P1- P2)
( Teacher reads, children repeat):
There is no place like home.
East or West home is best.
Great! So what is your home? Where are you from? ( Ukraine)
I am giving the cards out, you are to read the questions and answer them (Teacher divides children into pairs, goes round the class and helps when necessary):
3) Ok, stop practicing the questions. Let us check if the answers are correct. (The teacher chooses a pupil to come out and the pupil asks others the questions/ then the pupil is asked by the class)
4) Here is the presentation of Ukraine. Watch it carefully and say what you see in the slides ( The Teacher plays the slides with the National Emblem, the National Flag, the capital city, the Black sea and the Sea of Azov. Children describe the pictures using the phrases from the text)
Ukraine (5th form)
Ukraine is a big country on the continent of Europe.
It is located at the crossroads between Europe and Asia and is washed by the Black sea and the Sea of Azov. The capital city is Kyiv. It stands on the river Dnieper. Kyiv is a beautiful city. There are many churches, museums, theatres in Kyiv. The main street is Khreschatyk. It’s a popular tourist attraction.
The population of Ukraine is about 42 million people. The national emblem is the Trident. It is the symbol of the state of Volodymyr the Great. Our state flag is blue and yellow, blue is for sky, yellow is for wheat fields. The national dress is vyshyvanka. People wear it because they want to feel Ukrainian. Ukraine is a great country!
