Topic: Happy holidays.

Objectives:

• to develop children’s speaking skills;
• to improve listening skills;
• to make deeper pupils’ knowledge about holidays;
• to broaden children’s mind about native culture and cultures of English speaking countries;
• to learn a holiday song.

Outcomes: by the end of the class, the students will be able to tell about different holidays and sing a holiday song.

Materials: Power Point Presentation.

Plan

1. Introduction.

Slide 1. Greeting.

-         Good afternoon, pupils.

Slide 2. Aim of the lesson.

-         Today, we’ll talk about different holidays. The theme of our class is “Happy holidays.”

2. Warm-up.

Slide 3,4,5,6. An interview.

-         Let’s answer some questions to get you know better. You can use examples, which you can see at the slide under the question to help you to answer correctly.

-         Do you celebrate any holidays?

-         What is your favourite holiday?

-         How do you celebrate your favourite holiday?

-         Who do you usually spend your holidays with? (Support children during answering.)

3. Main activity.

1.     Match and talk about holidays and their dates.

Slide 7. At the slide you can see a table with the names of holidays and dates when we celebrate them. Let’s match the names and the dates. Use the scheme below to help you to answer. (Support pupils during answering)

2.     Sing a holiday song.

-         Now, let’s sing a holiday song. We should learn it. So, the first time we just listen to the song.

-         Now, let’s listen, repeat the words and try to translate. (Help the children with the translation if they need.)

-         So, let’s sing the whole song together.

3.     Match the holidays and countries.

Slide 8.  Now, let’s see how well you know what holidays are celebrated in different countries. We’ll talk about Ukraine, America and Britain. You may use the scheme below the table to help you to give your answers. (Use slides 9-14 to give more information for children about each holiday or to give the correction to their answers. Translate you comments if it is necessary.)

4. Assessment and evaluation.

-         Thank you very much for your activity at the class. You did a very great work. I’m proud of you a lot.
