Present Simple Tense

Simple present is also called present simple.

Present SimpleThe simple present expresses an action in the present taking place once, never or several times.

Example:

 

They never walk to the station.

She goes to the sport club twice a week  .

 

 It is also used for actions that take place one after another and for actions that are set by a timetable or schedule.

 The simple present also expresses facts in the present and general truth ,laws of nature.

Example:

She lives in Kryvyi Rih.

The sun sets in the west.

Simple present with 'have' and 'be'

 

To have

Use:

• have with the personal pronouns I, you, we , they (or with the plural form of nouns)
• has with the personal pronouns he, she, it (or with the singular form of nouns)

example: I have a dog

'have got' is mainly used in British English: I have got a dog.

 

To be

Exercise 1. Read and translate the text.

Tom  Brown is 25. He is a dolphin trainer. He likes his job because he loves working with animals.

He is an early bird. His day starts at six o’clock in the morning. He gets up, has a shower, and then he gets dressed. After breakfast, at about seven o’clock, he catches the bus to work. Tom arrives at the aquarium at half past seven and feeds the dolphins. After that they practise for the show until lunch-time. He has a break for  lunch , then the show starts. At five o’clock in the afternoon he feeds the dolphins again and then he goes home.

In the evening Tom usually watches TV , but sometimes he goes out with his friends. He loves going for long walks in the countryside.

Tom likes his job and enjoys his free time!
