Tea is one of the oldest and the worlds most popular beverages if not take water into account . The birthplace of tea is China The word tea the earlier “chaa “come from Chinese “cha”, which means “young leaf”

Where does tea come from? Tea comes from the leaves of a tree called Camellia sinensis. The three main types of tea are : Black, Oolong and Green. Herbal tea does not come from the leaves of a tea plant, therefore, is not considered to be real tea. Roots, stems, flowers and parts of plants are used to make herbal tea.

Where is tea grown? Today, tea is grown around 37 countries. The main producers are : China India Kenya Sri Lanka These four countries account for more than 50 % of the total tea production. Although new strong players are emerging in this market:Indonesia, Vietnam and some Africans countries.

How it is made Tea plants grow best in hot, humid places with temperatures of 50-85 degrees fahrenheit - Tea picking is still done by human hands - Spread on trays or racks and withered for 18 -24 hours. - Dried, rolled and twisted in order to oxidation process. - The last stage is firing of the leaves in order to stop fermentation and dry them out completely. Tea discovery  Tea was accidentally invented in 2737 BC when Chinese Emperor Shen Nung spotted some tea leaves blew into a pot of boiling water and produced a pleasing aroma.

Tea discovery According to another legend, tea was discovered by a poor woodcutter who was chopping trees in the hills when he saw several monkeys plucking leaves off a tree and chewing them. He tasted some of the leaves, liked it and brought some back to the village. He told others of his discovery and soon, everyone was adding leaves from the tree to their drinks.

Tea in Britain In 1657, tea was introduced to the residents of England. Few people drank this beverage though. Besides being illegally smuggled into the country, tea was also altered and heavily taxed. Tea was first introduced to England in 1669 and was primarily enjoyed by those of aristocratic society Drinking tea became popular in Britain during the 17th century. The British introduced it to India, in order to compete with the Chinese monopoly on the product. British people drink about 165 millions cups of tea a day.

Around the world The Japanese still are most found of traditional green tea. Thousands or men and women attend tea schools in order to learn of the Japanese tea ceremony. Who invented iced tea? Tea was first chilled by Richard Blechynden in 1904. He was an English tea merchant who was having difficulty selling his wares in the summer heat.
