DISCOVER AMERICA! Helpful hints on American values 1. Personal control over the environment- Americans like comfort very much and they adjust their environment to their needs ( e.g. conditioners and other technical devices are used to make their life comfortable)2. Time is money. Time is highly appreciated, its necessary for doing important things-career, for example. Everything is well-planned in their life and work and no one is allowed to waste time.3. Equality is the essence of American lifestyle. Americans believe people in their country are born equal and have equal rights to succeed.

4. Changes bring good. Americans change their places of work and living very often in search of better places. Changes help to develop their country. (But they don’t like crucial changes, revolutions, for example.5. Work orientation. Professionalism. Americans work much, they don’t take many holidays, they are workaholics. Work is the source of their good life. Professionalism is the main quality of a person (not connections or rich parents)6. Competition and free enterprise. Private property. Competition is good as it makes prices low and service better. Everyone can have his own business in the USA. Private property is the basis of their economy and life. There is nothing state and free in the USA. You have to pay for everything.(secondary education is free)

7. Future orientation. Americans think much about future, plan it, try to foresee all the details. They remember the heroes from their past but they don’t overestimate it.8. Self –help concept and individualism. They want to reach their goals themselves, want to be independent, and don’t want much help from their parents or friends. 9. Unformality, openness, directness. They are very informal in dressing, communication. They are easy to make friends. They are honest. 10. Materialism. They don’t believe in ghosts, witches, telling fortunes. Everything can be explained by science (but they go to church.)11. Practicism. They know what they want and need in their life and how to get it. One of the keys is hard work. They are not very much inclined to nostalgia and romanticism.
