international day of tolerance
What's the day?
International Day for Tolerance is a holiday celebrated on November 16 all over the world. It was introduced in 1995 by the decision of UNESCO. It was on this day that the Declaration of Principles of Tolerance was adopted. It refers to the equality of all people, regardless of their religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity or skin color. These principles were enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which proclaims the rejection of all forms of discrimination, the prevention and punishment of genocide.
How to cultivate a tolerant attitude towards others
Speak for yourself. Try to express your opinion more precisely.
Do not talk aggressively to a person who thinks differently from you.
Avoid insults and personal attacks.
Do not provoke a person to quarrel if he has a different opinion
Be more calm.
People tend to respond to aggression in their address with aggression. Do not quarrel and do not shout.
Watch your reactions.
For example, when you feel disrespected, you sigh and roll your eyes. Such reactions indicate intolerance and give away your attitude towards the communication partner and the course of your thoughts. In this case, it becomes obvious that you believe that the other person's opinion is completely useless, and it is as if you are saying that you are better than him.
How is Tolerance Day celebrated?
As a rule, events are held in educational institutions: schools, universities. Teachers tell students about the need for mutual respect, about the value of the peculiarities of each person, cultural and religious identity.
To fight against intolerance
Avoid "hate speech", develop a respectful attitude towards people and their views, so that at another moment they will show tolerance
