What Is Water? Have you ever heard someone refer to water as H2 O? Why do you suppose someone might call water by this name? What is water? Water (chemical formula: H2 O) is a transparent fluid which forms the world's streams, lakes, oceans and rain, and is the major constituent of the fluids of organisms. As a chemical compound, a water molecule contains one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms that are connected by covalent bonds.
Surface Tension of waterhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z. Mzqi. Au. OSz0 Read the statements and decide if they are True or False. 1. Each blue circle represents a molecule of water.2. Due to kinetic energy the particles that make up a liquid are in constant organized motion.3. The attractions of individual molecules on the surface pull on each other in one direction.4. This pull on the molecules is lateral and downward.5. Surface molecules are compressed more tightly together at the surface, forming a sortof skin on the surface.6. Water in particular has a very low surface tension.7. There is strong attraction between the oxygen and hydrogen due to their positive charges.8. The strong partial charges result in a strong attraction between water molecules called oxygen bonding.9. There are creatures that have evolved to take advantage of water's high surface tension.
Experiment 2: 1. Take 3 glasses of water. Add some sand into the first one, some salt into the second and soil into the third one.2. Describe the appearance of each solution and the place of each solute.3. In 10 minutes define the changes. Draw conclusions about the solubility of substances based on observations.
Task 1. Answer the questions. 1. How much water does our body contain?2. What does our body looses water for?3. Can such beverages like tea and coffee help promoting hydration?4. What are the signs of dehydration?5. What functions is water involved in?6. How much water do you drink? Is it enough for normal body function?
Water Users. Answer the questions:1. How much water do we use for drinking and cooking?2. How much water do we use for gardening?3. What amount of water is used for bathing and cleaning? 4. What percent of water do we use for laundry and dishes?5. What can we do to lessen the amount of water we use?
