Reading English traditions. The English is the nation of stay-at-homes. They prefer to live in small houses built close together with beautiful gardens around them. The English people keep their traditions with great honour. They like to mark the St. Valentine’s Day,All Fool’s Day,Christmas celebrations,New Year’s Eve,Easter, Halloween,Thanksgiving Day,Father’s and Mother’s Day and others.

Halloween is a holiday for children in autumn. It is on the 31st of October. It is the night for ghosts and witches. Boys and girls put on old and funny clothes. They go from house to house and knock at the doors. They say,”Trick or treat”. People give them sweets,fruits,cakes and other tasty things.

The next holiday is Thanksgiving Day. It’s avery special day. Today people thank for everything they have in their life. It celebrated on the last Thursday of November.

Christmas Day is celebrated on the 25th of December. On this day children and members of the family give presents to each other but mostly they give presents to poor people. Children wait for Santa Claus and for presents in their stockings. The traditional dish at Christmas is stuffed turkey and Christmas pudding. City streets are filled with coloured lights. The sound of bells and Christmas carols can be heard everywhere.

The next holiday is the New Yer’s Eve. Usually English celebrate it as a family party. The bigest Christmas tree situated in London on Trafalgar Square.

St. Valentines Day is the day when boys and girls,men and women choose tneir sweethearts. The ways of coosing sweethearts are different,but very often it is a kind of game.

April the first is known All Folls Day. To some people it is a favourite holiday on which jokes are played. Once can tell somebody that something is wrong with his dress,when in fact all is in order. It is a merry holiday of all –ages-children and grown-ups.

Easter is a religious holiday. The chocolate egg is a symbol of a new life. People buy new clothes on Easter. They believe this will bring good luck to them.  Easter lasts for a week. On Maundy Thursday, the king or a queen of England gives money to poor people. The tradition is very old. On Good Friday, people eat fish instead of meat. They also give each other chocolate Easter eggs.

Mother’s Day(2nd Sunday of May)and Father’s Day (3rd Sunday of June). These celebrations are well-known in different countries like,United States, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom,and even some Asian countries. On these days, Mothers and Fathers receive flowers,cards or letters from their children, some who live away from home visit their parents on these days. As mark of respect and love, children are encouraged to send their Moms and Dads mails.
