Turtles and tortoises. Turtles live in fresh water, salt water, and on land. Tortoises are turtles that live only on land, their shells are much heavier.

Crocodiles and alligators. Crocodiles have long, pointed snouts that are wider at the eyes and narrower at the nose. Alligators have rounded snouts, as wide at the eyes as at the nose.

Asian elephants and African elephants. African elephants are bigger than Asian ones. They have much bigger ears and a flatter back. Asian elephants have four toes on each back foot, and African elephants have three toes. Only Asian male elephants have tusks. Both male and female African elephants have tusks.

Frogs and toads. Frogs have smooth skin, but toads have warty skin. Frogs have greenish skin and toads have brownish skin. Frogs live close to water, but toads spend a lot of time out of water. Frogs hop far higher than toads, and they can make a lot of noise at night.

Rabbits and hares. Hares are larger than rabbits, they have far longer hind legs and far longer ears with black markings. Rabbits make their homes in burrows underground, but hares make nests above ground. Rabbits live in groups. Hares spend most of their time alone.

Cetaceans. Whales, killer whales and dolphins belong to the same family of mammals, called cetaceans. The animals breathe through a blowhole on the top of their head. The new-born calves eat milk. The milk is as thick as toothpaste.
