Great Britain is english speaking country. It is situated in the north-west of Europe. Great Britain is a parliamentary monarchy. It means that there is a Queen (or King) and the Parliament.

London is the seat of the British. Government London is the political centre of the country. It is also a very beautiful city.

The head of the state is the Queen. The present sovereign is Queen Elizabeth II. She was crowned in Westminster Abbey in 1953.

Buckingham Palace is the London residence of the Queen. Buckingham Palace was built in the 18th. The Royal standard is flown and the ceremony of changing of the guard takes place daily when the sovereign is in residence. Besides, she has some homes in England and Scotland.

The Queen has almost no power in the country. Her powers are limited by the Parliament. Laws are made by the Parliament. The Parliament works in the Houses of Parliament. It is very beautiful building with two towers and a very big.

The British Parliament consists of two cambers : The House of Lords and the House of Commons. There are more than 1000 members in the House of Lords. Many seat are hereditary. The House of Commons has 635 members. They are elected.
