   Збірник текстів та завдань для читання розрахований для учнів 1-5 класів. Він містить добірку різноманітних текстів. Дуже зручна форма контролю рівня сформованості навичок читання.

   Посібник призначений для вчителів англійської мови, студентів та учнів при самостійній підготовці до контролю рівня сформованості навичок читання. Навчання англійської мови в початкових класах включає в себе навчання таким видам мовної діяль­ності, як аудіювання, говоріння, читання, письмо, переклад. Вимоги до практичного оволодіння учнями кожним видом мовної діяльності подані в програмі за класами.

   Під час усного вступного курсу учні знайомляться з літерами англійського алфавіту. Доцільно на початковому етапі навчати учнів напівдрукарському шрифту, це полегшує і прискорює трудомісткий процес навчання читанню.    Gardening is the most favourite hobby in Britain. The British plant different beautiful trees and flowers in their gardens near their houses. That is why they are very beautiful and colourful, eapecially in spring.

Two friends

   Once upon a time there  lived two mice. One of them lived in a big city. Her name was Minny. Minny’s friend lived in a village. Her name was Maggy. One day Maggy decided to visit Minny. She went to the city by train. She saw many beautiful houses, shops, parks and squares, there were a lot of buses, cars, trams and trolley- buses in the streets. She got to Minny’s house by bus. Maggy was glad to see her friend.

My Town

   My name is Nick. I live in a small town. Our town is not very big. Not all the streets of our town are long and wide. But they are green in summer with a lot of trees and flowers. On Saturdays and Sundays there are a lot of people and cars in the streets. The people of our town do the shopping.

   We can see a lot of people in the parks in our town. In spring and summer there are a lot of grannies and little children in our "Children's Park". Grannies usually sit or walk. And their little grandchildren like to play balls, ride small cars, run and jump. This park is the best place for our children.

    In summer, when it is hot, the people of our town like to go to the river. It is not very long and wide, but it's warm and clean. There is a bridge across the river. Next to the river there is a large field. In summer it is yellow and very beautiful.

The little Round Bun

   Once upon a time there lived an old man and an old woman. They were very poor. They did not have any children. One day the old man said, ‘’Bake us a bun, old woman! We have some flour.’’

   So the old woman found some flour and made a bun of it. She baked the bun and put it on the windowsill to cool. But the bun jumped out of the window and rolled along the road.

   The bun met a Rabbit. The Rabbit said, ‘’I am going to eat you, Little Round Bun!’’

   ‘’I ran away from Grandpa,

     I ran away from Grandma,

     And I will run away from you!’’

   And Little Round Bun rolled away. It met a Wolf and a Bear. It sang them a song and rolled away. Soon it met a Fox. Little Round Bun sang its song to the Fox. The Fox said, ‘’ Please, do not stop! Roald Dahl

   Roald Dahl was born in 1916 in Llandaff, Wales (Great Britain). When he was a boy he studied at Llandaff Cathedral School. During the war (1940-1945) he was a pilot. After the war he became a famous writer. Roald Dahl was also a man who loved people. He gave his time and money to help people in need, especially children.

   After his death 1990, his wife, Felicity, continued his good tradition. His children’s stories ‘’ The Magic Finger’’ and ‘’Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’’ are the most popular among the children of all time.

English Meals

    The English take four meals a day: breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner or supper. In England breakfast time is between seven and nine, lunch time is between twelve and two, tea is between four and five and dinner or supper time is between seven and ten.

   In some English houses lunch is the biggest meal of the day – they have meat or fish, vegetables, fruit or pudding. Some people who go out to work have sandwiches and coffee.

   In the afternoon, at tea time the English, as you know, like to have a cup of tea with milk. Some Englishmen have their dinner late in the evening. For dinner they have soup, fish or meat, vegetables, pudding and fruit.

   For supper they usually have a glass of milk and a cake or a cup of tea and a sandwich.

   But there are people who like to have some more things to eat for supper – cold meat or fish. Then they usually try to take a good walk after supper: “after dinner sleep a while, after supper walk a mile”, the English proverb goes.

The Seasons in England

   English families like to spend their holidays and the weekends in the countryside. The English countryside is like a carpet of many flowers in every season. In spring and summer the fields, the meadows and the forests are light green and dark green. The gardens are red, blue, yellow and white with flowers. In autumn the leaves on the trees change their colour from green to yellow, brown, red and orange. The English summer is never very hot and in winter it is not very cold. Spring and autumn are cool. Cold wind blows in winter from the sea, in summer the winds are cool. There is little snow in winter, and it never stays on the ground for long. But there is much rain in England all the year round. The weather is very changeable. The grass in the mountains is green all the year round. That’s why you can see many cows and sheep in the meadows. English children like to play football very much. They can play football even in winter because the football fields are always green. All children like summer best of all because it is the season of their holidays. They can go to the seaside, play in green parks and walk in the mountains.
