1.Warming up

Students come into the classroom and get stickers with the words: burry, four eyes, swot, bookworm, ginger minger, weirdo, looser, loner, sad, get lost, liar, too slow, crybaby, teacher’s pet, outsider, sharp-tongued, whisperer, overweight, skeleton, sneak and so on.

Teacher: Hello, everybody! As you see our lesson will be devoted to the topic: Bullying is never OK. It means that we have to be kind and tolerant to people around. I’m sure that each of you at least once in your lifetime faced with bullying and there is no doubt you did not like that feeling of disappointment and humiliation. That’s why I want to work at this topic today and convince you that bullying is a thing which destroys humanity. Please, look at the sticky labels you’ve got. Very often we have unpleasant nicknames. Do you know what they mean?

Students: express their ideas

2Listening and speaking

Teacher: What is bullying? What kinds of bullying are there? I suggest you to watch the following video  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRZz2eU9LHg and then answer several questions.

  1. What are the most common types of bullying? (physical bullying, cyber bullying, verbal bullying and racist bullying)
  2. Find the correspondence among questions and pictures:

3.Watching video  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW6M6Fk1wMk

Teacher: now you have to watch the video and answer the questions according to it.

After watching video, ask the following questions:

a. Was there bullying?

b. Who was bullied?

c. Who was the bully?

d. What happened? (What type of bullying is there?)

e. How did the person being bullied feel?

f. How did the bully feel?

g. What did they do in the video to stop the bullying?

4. Writing and speaking

Teacher: I definitely know that you are very active Instagram users. By the way, I also know that cyber bullying has a great influence on people. There are so many haters. Now you’ll get a chance to play roles of good and bad followers. Let’s split into groups. Each team draws any Instagram picture, then shows it to the opposite team. The task of the teams is to write their comments as if in social networks.

5.  Game

Teacher:Now we will play a game called “Empathy Freeze.” I will play some music, and when

the music stops, I will say an emotion. Even though you might not be feeling the emotion, I want you to imagine how the emotion would feel. And then I want you to freeze showing me how the emotion would look to you using your facial expressions and even your body.

I want everyone to start by standing at your seat. Start the music, then stop it randomly and say a

word from the list. If you do not have a music source, you can instruct the students to walk around the room in a circle for the activity, and say “freeze” and then call out an emotion.

FOLLOW UP

- Which of the feelings or emotions we just discussed would a person who is being bullied probably feel?

- Which of the feelings or emotions we just discussed might an upstander helping someone being bullied feel?

Great job everyone. Remember, when we understand the feelings of someone else, it is called empathy.

It’s important to be empathetic and kind to everyone, but especially someone who is bullied, so let’s keep using empathy throughout the school year.
6.Listening.

Teacher: Listen to the song “Firework” by Katy Perry and fill the blanks

Do you ever feel like a plastic           .
Drifting through the                                           wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so                                 thin
Like a                                 of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already                                            deep?
Six                                        under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there’s still a chance for                               .
‘Cause there’s a spark in                                                         ?

You just gotta ignite the                                      and let it shine

Just own the night like the                                    .

You don’t have to feel like a waste of space
You’re original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the                                  holds             holds
After a hurricane comes a                                                    .

Maybe you’re reason why all the                                          are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect                              .
Like a lightning bolt, your                                         will glow
And when it’s time, you’ll know

You just gotta ignite the                         and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

CHORUS

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the                                               .
Its always been inside of you, you, you
And now its time to let it through

Teacher: I think that this song reflects your mood after this lesson and as a result you know how to behave not to offend people. Remember, that it can be you, a person who suffers because of somebody’s words or actions.
