Topic. All about my friends. Are you a real friend?

Objectives: to present and practice new vocabulary to describe character; to develop students’ reading & speaking skills, to develop students’ ability of interacting & working in a group, to practice grammar and writing skills, to develop language guess, to bring students to respect and benevolence to others.

Equipment: a projector, a laptop, Textbook “English 5” by O. Karpiuk , 2018; cards, presentation “My friends”, letters of the word “ADJECTIVE”.

Procedure

І. Introduction

1. Greeting.

T: - Good morning, pupils!

Ps: - Good morning, teacher!

T: - I’m glad to see you.

Ps: - We are glad to see you too.

T: - How are you today?  (P’s answers).

T: - You have a good mood today. It’s so great! And I think that today we will work very fruitful. Let’s get started our lesson. So, who is on duty today? Who is absent today?

2. Aim of a lesson.

T: - Today we are going to speak about our friends. You will learn new words, read and discuss texts, do many exercises and practice your speaking and writing skills. Let’s start our lesson.

T: - Pupils, what day of the week today? What is the date today? Write down the date in your copybooks, please.

4. Checking on homework.

T: - So, are you ready with your home task? That’s nice! But I’ll  check it a little bit later.

5.Warm-up.

1. Singing a song.

Учні повторюють пісню, потім хором співають її у супроводі аудіозапису. (Впр. 5, с. 52)

2. Writing & vocabulary practice.

Учні отримують картки і самостійно виконують завдання. Два учні, що першими впорались із завданням, малюють схеми на дошці. Учитель разом з класом стежить за правильністю виконання завдання.

T: - Pupils you have the cards. Look at them. Please … read the task. So, you must complete these mind maps with the following words: kind, lazy, angry, clever, nice, boring, interesting, and sad. Please, write down this into your copybooks.

ІІ. Main part  

1. Revising some lexical materials. “Vocabulary box” (p.52).

Учитель читає слова англійською. Учні перекладають їх рідною мовою.

T: - So, please, open your text books – page fiftieth. You can see the first item that’s called “All about my friends”. Look at the “Vocabulary box”. So, let’s review the words. Listen and repeat.

Words:

Nickname –прізвисько;

Clumsy –незграбний;

Curious – цікавий, допитливий;

Helpful – корисний, такий, що допомагає;

Imaginative – образний, уявний, повний фантазії;

Lazy – лінивий;

Polite – ввічливий;

Tidy – чистий, охайний;

Unusual –  незвичайний.

2. Grammar & Vocab practice.

Учні повинні скласти з літер слово – назву частини  мови.

T: - And now the next task for you make up the word using these letters. What’s the word we can make up? What’s it the part of speech?

Letters: A, D, J, E, C, T, I, V, E. (Adjective) – прикметник.

Учитель роздає учням слова. Потім вчитель називає слово на українській мові, а учень в якого це слово записано на англійській мові, виходить до дошки і записує цю пару слів. Наприклад :  lazy – лінивий. При цьому учні повинні утворити вищий та найвищий ступені порівняння прикметників.

Слова: clumsy, curious, helpful, imaginative, lazy, polite, tidy, unusual, popular, long.

3. Vocabulary.  (p. 52)

Traits of character - риси характеру

Message – повідомлення

Bully – забіяка, хуліган, задирати

Carefully – обережно

Invite – запрошувати

Kind – добрий

Lonely – самотній

Smart – розумний

4. Game “Make up Sentences”

Кожен учень отримує набір карток і самостійно складає речення. Той, хто  впорався із завданням , читає речення.

T: - You have the cards. Your task – make up sentences.

5. Listening. (Ex. 1, p. 50)

Учні прослуховують аудіозапис тексту та самостійно виконують завдання вправи. Після цього один з них читає подані частини речень, учитель контролює правильність виконання завдання.

T: - And now the time for listening. Look at the exercise one, page 50.

Your tasks – listen and after that read about some British children and match the words in columns to make true sentences.

Pupils’ answers:

1. Lolly is an unusual girl.
2. David is an excellent pupil.
3. Tom is sporty.
4. Luka is popular at school.
5. Jasmine is a nice girl.

6. Relaxation.  Song “If you happy and you know it…”

Учні разом з вчителем співають пісню “If you happy and you know it....” та виконують відповідні рухи.

6. Reading. (Ex. 1, p.50)

1)Pre-reading activity.

T: - Have you got friends? What are your friends like? What are your friends good at? Why do you like your friends?

2) Reading.

Учні читають тексти вправи по одному-два речення.

3) Reading comprahension.

а) Ex. 2, p. 51

Учні самостійно протягом 1-2 хвилин виконують завдання вправи, потім ланцюжком читають доповнені речення. Учитель стежить за правильністю виконання завдання.

б)Questions activity.

T: - Why does Elizabeth Jennifer McDougal has got the nickname “Lolly”?

Who wants to be a scientist?  What languages can David speak? What kinds of sport is Tom good at? How many brothers has Tom got? What is Luka fond of? Has Luka got a brother or a sister? Why does everybody like Jasmine?  What hobbies has Jasmine got?

7. Speaking. (Ex.  3, p.  51)

1. Work in pairs.

Учні отримують картки і в парах складають діалогb протягом 3-4 хвилин . Після цього дві-три пари розповідають свої діалоги за ролями. Учитель стежить за правильністю граматичної побудови речень.

8. Doing a mini-project  “My ideal friend”

Учні отримують картки та виконують завдання у групах.

She … a blond hair and blue eyes. She  … crazy about music. Vicky … a very tidy and helpful girl.  Vicky … a cat and a dog.

He… a brown hair and  green eyes. He  … crazy about football. Dan … very  helpful and kind.  He  … a parrot.

9. Self-assessment

Учні виконують самостійну роботу.

ІІІ. Follow up and homework.

T: - Your homework is ex. 4, page 51. Choose a character and write 3-4 sentences about him/her.

 T: - Today you’re excellent! God job, pupils!!! We spoke about our friends. Was this lesson difficult for you? Why? What have you learnt from this lesson? Name the treats of the character of your best friend.
