BRITISH FOOD BEST IN THE WORLD
A British restaurant that serves bacon and egg ice cream has been voted the best place in the world to eat. The Fat Duck restaurant, near London, was at the top of Restaurant magazine's list of the World's 50 Best restaurants. The owner and head chef Heston Blumenthal opened his restaurant ten years ago. He has quickly developed a reputation for experimental and unique dishes. His menu includes leather, oak and tobacco chocolates, sardine on toast sorbet, snail porridge, and mousse dipped in liquid nitrogen. He taught himself how to cook and is now famous for this new style of cooking, which is called "molecular gastronomy". It mixes chemistry, physics, food and flavour to make unusual taste combinations. Britain, the home of fish and chips, is usually famous for tasteless and boring food. However, it seems things are changing: in addition to the Fat Duck's award, London was named in March by Gourmet magazine as the Gourmet capital of the World.

Speaker 1. Well, we decided to go to the restaurant on the corner of Rose street, you know, the one that serves Mexican food, because it was Susie's birthday. It was a good idea. The food was of very high quality-hot and spicy! The service was efficient and friendly. There was a Mexican band playing so the atmosphere was lively. I gasped when I got the bill. An expensive evening, but it was certainly worth it.
Speaker 2. Last night I took my kids out to our local fast food restaurant. I have to say that the quality of food was good it wasn't greasy or too salty. I can't fault them on that, and they were quick. The atmosphere was really noisy as they were playing loud music. It's amazing, you always think that fast food is cheap, but that's not true anymore. This place was overpriced.
Speaker 3. I took Jenny out for pizza at Gian- carlos last night. We hadn't been there for a while and I'd forgotten how good it was. At the pizzas are home-made, only the freshest ingredients are used. The service was friendly and unhurried. And that gave it a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. It was a good night out and excellent value for money.
