Тема: Екскурсія по Лондону.

Мета:

Практична: формувати навички діалогічного та монологічного мовлення;формувати навички систематизувати і коментувати одержану інформацію.

Освітня: розширити знання учнів про країну, мова якої вивчається.

Розвивальна: розвивати естетичне сприймання дійсності; розвивати увагу та уяву; розвивати уміння логічно викладати думки; розвивати вміння ефективно співпрацювати під час парної роботи.

Виховна: виховувати повагу до традицій народу, мова якого вивчається.

Засоби навчання: мультимедійний проектор, ноутбук, презентація, роздатковий матеріал.

План заняття

І. Організаційна частина.

1. Привітання.

2. Повідомлення теми та мети заняття.

3. Уведення в іншомовну атмосферу.

А) бесіда « Що ми знаємо про Лондон?» Викладач задає запитання, а студенти відповідають ( робота з групою).

What do you know about London? (Режим: Т-S1,S2...):

  •                   When was it founded?
  •                   Who built it?
  •                   What was the first name of London?
  •                   What river does it stand on?
  •                   How many parts does it consist of?
  •                   What are their names?
  •                   What places of interest are there in London?

ІІ. Основна частина.

  1.               Активізація вживання лексики в усному мовленні.
  1.               Завдання 1. Робота з діалогами про визначні місця Лондону. Робота студентів у парах (гід і турист), яка супроводжується слайдами презентації.

А) презентація.

  1. The Tower of London. Thames Bridge

G: - Welcome to London. We start our tour from the Tower of London. On the right bank of the Thames you can see the Tower of London. It is one of the oldest buildings in London.

T: - Could you tell us who founded this great building?

G: - The Tower of London was founded by Julius Caesar. In 1066 the Tower was rebuilt by William the Conqueror. It was used as a fortress, a royal palace, a prison and the King’s Zoo. Now it is a museum. There are a lot of interesting collections in the Tower of London. The black ravens are another famous sight. A man looks after the ravens and gives them food in the morning and in the evening.

T: - Why is it so important thing for the Tower?

G: - The legend says that without them the Tower will fall. Now you can see Thames Bridge. It is the only Thames Bridge which can be raised.

2.   St. Paul’s Cathedral. Piccadilly Circus

G: - Now we are at St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is the largest Protestant Church in England.

T: - Who was an architect of this cathedral?

G: - . This is the famous English architect Sir Christopher Wren. He built it in the 17th century.

T: - How many years did this building take?

G: - It took Sir Christopher Wren 35 years. It is a beautiful building with many columns and towers.

T: - Where are we now? What is the name of this wonderful place?

G: - It is Piccadilly Circus. It is the meeting point of six streets. It is famous for its brightly lit neon advertisements at night. There are many theatres, cinemas and restaurants.

3. Trafalgar Square

G: - Now we are coming to Trafalgar Square. It is situated in the center of the West End. Trafalgar Square was named in memory of Admiral Nelson’s victory at the battle of Trafalgar with French.

T: -Could you tell us something about this monument?

G: - Yes, of course. This is Nelson’s column. The column is over 170 feet high with the statue of Nelson’s showing him with one arm and with one eye. He lost them in the battle.

T: - Where is the National Gallery situated? It must be on this square.

G: - You are right. It is situated on the north side of Trafalgar Square. It houses one of the finest art collections in the world, including paintings of the British, Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch and other famous schools. There are two beautiful fountains in front of the National Gallery.

4. The Houses of Parliament. Big Ben

G: - Now we are at the Westminster Palace. You can see the Houses of Parliament on the left bank of the river Thames. It is a symbol of London. The Houses of Parliament are the seat of the British government. It was designed in the Gothic style and built between 1840 and 1860.

T: - What is the name of this huge clock? I think this is Big Ben, isn’t it?

G: - .Yes, of course. It is the biggest clock Tower in Britain. People have to go 374 steps to reach the top.

T: - Why it is called Big Ben?

G: - The man in charge of building was called Sir Benjamin Hall. This man was very tall and the workers and his friends called him Big Ben.

5. Westminster Abbey

G: - Now we are coming to Westminster Abbey. It is situated opposite the Houses of Parliament. It is one of the famous and beautiful churches in London. It was founded by Edward the Confessor. It is a beautiful Gothic building

T: - Could you tell us when was it built?

G: In the 11th century 1050 but it was destroyed and rebuilt several times. It was a monastery and a Norman church for a long time. Westminster Abbey has many historical associations. Nearly all English kings and queens were crowned there.

T: - What is the Coronation Chair?

G: - It is one of the greatest treasures of the Abbey. This is the oaken Coronation Chair made in 1300. You know that many famous people are buried in this Abbey: Newton, Darwin, Dickens. In the Poet’s Corner there are memorials to Shakespeare, Byron, Burns.

6. Buckingham Palace

G: - Now we are at Buckingham Palace It was built in 1703. Buckingham Palace is now the official residence of the English Queen and the British Royal Family. When the flag is flying on the top she is at home. It is like a small town with a police station, two post offices, a hospital, a bar, two sport clubs, a disco, a cinema and a swimming pool.

T: - How many rooms are there in the Palace?

G: - There are 600 rooms. The ceremony of the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace is a great tourist’s attraction.

T: - When does the Changing of the Guard happen?

G: - Changing the Guard happens every day at 11.30. a.m.

T: - What park is on the left?

G: - On the left side you can see St. James’ Park. It is one of the royal parks. Here you can see pelicans and ducks.

7. Hyde Park

G: - There are a lot of parks and gardens in London. Now we are at Hyde Park. It is a royal park since 1536. People are allowed to walk, to sit and to lie on the grass.

T: - Could you tell us about this lake?

 G: - Of course. The Serpentine is a lake in the middle of the park. You can take a boat out on the water. It is a good place get away from the crowds and the noise of the city.  It is a custom for some people to swim in it on Christmas Day.

T: - Could you tell us what kind of place is Speaker’s Corner?

G: - It is a place where anyone can make a speech about anything they want.

  1.               Завдання 2. Визначити, ствердження правильні чи ні. Неправильні ствердження – виправити. Студенти працюють з завданням під час слухання діалогів за презентацією.

А) картки з завданням:

  •                   The Tower of London was a fortress, a prison and the King’s Zoo.

  •                   Black chickens live in the Tower.
  •                   St. Paul’s Cathedral is one of the biggest English churches.
  •                   The centre of London is Piccadilly Circus.
  •                   In the middle of the square there is a monument to Admiral Nelson.
  •                   The clock and the bell Big Ben got the name after the King of England.
  •                   Many English kings, queens and poets are buried in Westminster Abbey.
  •                   The Queen of England lives in the Houses of Parliament.

3) Завдання 3. Гра «Відгадай слово». Студенти повинні прослухати пояснення викладача і відгадати назву одного з визначних місць Лондону.

T: Let’s play a game “Guess a word”. Listen to my explanation and try to guess the name of these places of London.

1. In this street at House No 10 the Prime Minister lives.

(Downing Street)

2. This square was named in memory of Admiral Nelson’s victory in the battle with the French. (Trafalgar Square)

3. There are many famous cinemas, theatres, restaurants and neon advertisements in it. (Piccadilly Circus)

4. It’s the seat of the British Parliament. On the Clock Tower you can see famous Big Ben. (Westminster Palace)

5. It’s the official residence of the British Queen.

(Buckingham Palace)

6. This church was built by Sir Christopher Wren in the 17th century. (St. Paul’s Cathedral)

7. Nearly all English kings and queens were crowned there. It is famous for the Poet’s Corner. (Westminster Abbey)

8. This monument is on Trafalgar Square, a tall figure of great seaman. (Nelson’s Column)

9. It is a popular place for public meetings. It’s famous for its Speaker’s Corner. (Hyde Park)

10. It is the historical part of London, its financial and business centre. (The City)
