Мета:

 ознайомити учнів з національним святом США, розширити їх знання про культуру та традиції країни, мова якої вивчається.

залучити учнів у позаурочну діяльність з англійської мови.

акцентувати увагу учнів на таких людських цінностях як сім'я, традиції, подяка.

Обладнання:

комп’ютер , презентація, тематичні аудіо та відеоматеріали,

тематичні малюнки, роздатковий матеріал;

святкові символи, що учні виготовили власноруч.

Today is Thursday, the 21st of November.

It is a public holiday in the USA. It is a day off for the general population, and schools and most businesses are closed.

And I strongly believe, you know for sure what holiday it is.

(Yes, I am speaking about Thanksgiving Day.) But - ‘why’, ‘how long’ and ‘how’? Let’s find out together!

They are pilgrims. And they live in Britain.

One day they go to America by ship.

Now Pilgrims live in America. It’s a new place for them. There are a lot of pilgrims.

The winter comes. It’s very cold in America now. Pilgrims are really cold.

They are hungry, they have no food.

They are ill, they have no medicine.

Are they happy in America?

And who helps pilgrims?

Indians!!

They bring some….

Turkey, corn, pumpkins.

Pilgrims are not hungry any more.

They have a lot of food. And they are really happy! They have new FRIENDS too!

Now pilgrims and Indians are friends.

In autumn….

Pilgrims and Indians have a party.

They eat fruit, turkey and a pumpkin pie.

Pilgrims say: «thank you!»

It’s a day when we say «thank you!»

So children. What is Thanksgiving Day? It is a day when  we say “thank you” for everything we have, for all that is dear to you.

I have a Thanksgiving tree. What can’t you see on it? (Leaves)

In front of you there is some colored paper. Choose a colour. Circle the palm. And cut it out.

Now let's listen to the song.

Now write on the paper palm what you are thankful for and stick it to the tree.

Діти створюють дерево подяки. Вирізують листочки, записують кому вони вдячні, та прикрашають дерево.

Children, now we know the traditions of celebrating Thanksgiving in the USA.

You know, the symbol of Thanksgiving Day is turkey. I’ve got some tasty turkeys for you.
