T: Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. How are you? Please, sit down. Today we have a lot of things to do. First, we will revise your grammar topic. Secondly, we will try to use your knowledge of the topic “School life” to discuss one of its aspects. And, of course, we will try to have fun and stay in good mood. But as they say “First things first”. So I offer you to start with a short pronunciation exercise.
- викликати в учнів бажання говорити по-англійські;
- налаштувати слуховий та мовний апарат учнів на іноземну мову;
- актуалізувати у промові вивчений на попередніх уроках мовний матеріал;
Т: It looks like it is high time to start speaking English, so let us prepare our organs of speech for that. And our favorite tongue twister will help us.
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck
If a woodchuck could chuck wood?
As much wood as a woodchuck could,
If a woodchuck could chuck wood.
Well, thank you. It looks like you have coped with the main task and are ready to continue our work.
T: Well, right now we will check your home task. To help us do that we will use our favorite “Talk for a minute” game. The rules haven’t changed. You choose any letter, read the question and talk for a minute.
T: Now, please look at the board. And tell me what these pictures have in common. Can you guess what we will be talking about today? Right “Exchange students”. I think you will agree that nowadays the necessity of studying abroad has become an emerging trend among the youth. However, every coin has two sides and so does going abroad to study. It has countless advantages as well as disadvantages that should be taken into consideration.
T: Now you will have to work on your own and write down three reasons for and three reasons against being an exchange student.
T: Now you have to stand up and find yourself a partner to discuss the answers you have written and make a common list of for and against issues.
T: Great job. And now I will show you my ideas. Let us see if we have much in common. I will also ask you to come to the board and put the ideas to the correct column FOR or AGAINST, depending on what you decide with your team.
T: OK. We have already discussed for and against of being an exchange student, but let us watch a short video in which a girl, whose name is Lotta, tells about her experience of being an exchange student. Be very attentive while watching because after the video you will have to complete two tasks. And of course you have one minute to look at the tasks to know what to watch for.
T: As you can see, Lotta’s experience is very teaching. And being an exchange student IS both great and difficult. So I would like you to discuss three questions about being an exchange student, which you can see on the board and tell me what you have come up with.
T: I want to finish our lesson with giving you a good chance to develop your thinking. I am asking you to imagine that an exchange student from another country came to you. Dwell on the following tips to help you:
Essay map, www.readwritethink.org/materials/essaymap/.
T: It looks like you have done a great job today. So the final thing is to estimate whether we have reached our aims or not. To do that you can choose one of the phrases you can see on the board and finish it with your ideas.
