IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY
by Jack Prelutsky
It's Valentine's Day. And in the street
There's freezing rain, and slush, and sleet.
The wind is fierce. The skies are gray.
I don't think I'll go out today.
But here inside the weather's warm.
There is no trace of wind or storm.
And you just made the morning shine.
You said you'd be my Valentine.
OUR CLASSROOM HAS A MAILBOX
by Jack Prelutsky
Our classroom has a mailbox
That we painted red and gold.
We stuffed it with more Valentines
Than it was made to hold.
When we opened it this morning,
I was nervous as could be.
I wondered if a single one
Had been addressed to me.
But when they'd been delivered
I felt twenty stories' tall.
I got so many Valentines,
I couldn't hold them all.
LOVE IS...
by Greg Scelsa
Love is ... a tender feeling,
Love is ... a way of being,
Love is ... just showing someone you care.
Love is ... helping with the dishes,
Love is ... feeding your pet fishes,
Love is ... just giving from your heart.
Love is so very simple, It's not a mystery.
When you treat those around you
The very same way
You want them to treat you.
Love is ... your baby sister,
Love is ... playing with her,
Love is ... holding her when she cries.
Love is ... sharing your candy,
Love is ... being all that you can be,
Love is ... lending a helping hand
When someone needs you.
Love is ...
L-O-V-E
Love is ...
For you and me.
Oh! Love is the greatest thing in the world.
I LOVED YOU ONCE (Я ВАС ЛЮБИВ)
o. S. Pushkin Translated from the Russian by Oleg Maslennikov
I loved you once. My love for you, it may be,
Within this heart of mine is still aglow;
But let it not concern you any longer;
I would not have it pain you anymore.
I loved you once — so hopelessly, in silence,
By shyness now, then jealousy beset.
My love for you has been so true, so tender,
As God may grant, another's may prove yet.
A VALENTINE FOR MY TEACHER
by Jack Prelutsky My teacher's very special,
So I'm making her a heart. A Valentine that's sufe to be
A proper work of art. I've worked on it all morning,
So it should be ready soon. I'd like to slip it on her desk
Before this afternoon. It's coloured in with crayons,
And it's trimmed with paper lace It has flowers hearts, and Cupids.
I can't wait to see her face.
I LOVE YOU MORE THAN APPLESAUCE
By Jack Prelutsky
I love you more than apple sauce,
Than peaches and a plum,
Than chocolate hearts,
And cherry tarts,
And berry bubble-gum.
I love you more than lemonade,
And seven-layer cake,
Than lollipops,
And candy drops,
And thick vanilla shake.
I love you more than marzipan
Than marmalade on toast;
For I love pies
Of any size,
But I love you the most.
YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE
by Jimmie
Davis and Charles Mitchell
The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping,
I dreamed I held you in my arms.
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken,
So I hung my head and I cried.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine;
You make me happy when skies are gray.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you;
Please don't take my sunshine away.
I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me to love another
You'll regret it, oh, some day.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine;
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you;
Please, don't take my sunshine away.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine;
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you;
Please, don't take my sunshine away.
Please, don't take my sunshine away.
MY LOVE IS LIKE A RED, RED ROSE
by Robert Bums
О my Luve's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June;
0 my Luve's like the melodic
That's sweetly play'd in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will love thee still, my Dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.
Till a' the seas gang dry, my Dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
1 will love thee still, my Dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.
And fare thee weel, my only Luve!
And fare thee weel, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it were ten thousand mile!
